Who can take timolol tablets

Most adults aged 18 and over can take timolol tablets.

Who may not be able to take timolol tablets

Timolol is not suitable for some people. To make sure it's safe for you, tell your doctor before starting to take the medicine if you:

  • have ever had an allergic reaction to timolol or any other medicine
  • have lung disease or asthma
  • have unstable heart failure (which may make you feel short of breath, light-headed, more likely to cough at night, tired and have chest pain)
  • have low blood pressure (hypotension), or a slow heart rate
  • have a condition called metabolic acidosis (too much acid in your blood)
  • have blood circulation problems in your limbs (such as Raynaud's phenomenon), which may make your fingers and toes tingle, turn paler than usual, or turn blue (which may be more difficult to see on brown or black skin)
