MyDesmond is an online self-management diabetes education programme. 

It's designed to help people with type 2 diabetes and those at risk of developing type 2 diabetes care for their own diabetes in a positive way. You need to be referred by a GP to use MyDesmond. 


Who is it suitable for?

Anyone over the age of 16 with type 2 diabetes or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

How does it work?

MyDesmond is based on the NICE approved face-to-face Desmond self-management programme.

Its features include:

  • tracking your step and activity
  • educational resources, including weekly interactive education modules
  • tracking self-reported data on blood pressure, weight, BMI, healthy eating and smoking
  • step challenges
  • an Ask the Expert service
  • chatting with other people in the community  
  • setting yourself goals 
  • inviting your family and friends to join the step challenges and access the education

MyDesmond is an NHS service and relies on the commissioning of the service locally. It's free to use in over 60 sites across the UK.
