Derbyshire County Council provide 

a full induction training package for all Managers and Staff including topics such as Falls Prevention, Infection Control, First Aid, Dementia, etc. Specialist training is provided by relevant professionals where a need is identified such as catheter or stoma care and specific training is available for the varying needs of people who live with us.

All staff have either achieved or working towards a level 2 qualification in care which is a requirement of the post and relevant in-house training courses around medication, safeguarding, etc.

Managers are required to achieve, or have achieved, up to a level 4/5 qualification in Care/Management.

There is an excellent retention of staff and the majority of the team at Lacemaker Court DCC Unit have been at the home for many years.

All staff at Lacemaker Court DCC Unit has completed the 5.5 day specialist dementia care training. Training is always high on the agenda and the manager is very proactive in ensuring the staffs is trained to a high level. 


Sue Jowett

Unit Manager

The Registered Manager is Sue Jowett. Sue has gained NVQ Level 4 in both Health and Social Care and Management. Sue has a wide range of training which enables her to provide the appropriate care to the clients in the unit. Sue made the decision to specialise in dementia care in 2000 and has since gained a wealth of knowledge surrounding the illness by working closely with families and health care professionals. Sue has worked within the caring profession for over 30 years and has a wide range of experience which covers all aspects of Adult Care.
