Bristol Community Health is a Community Interest Company and we are part of the growing social enterprise movement. We employ over 1,700 staff, the majority of whom are highly skilled frontline clinicians.

Our aspiration is that our organisation is fully owned by the employees and any surpluses are reinvested back into developing our services. We operate for the good of the communities that we serve.

What is a social enterprise?

Social enterprises trade for social and environmental benefit. Unlike private companies, social enterprises do not distribute profits to shareholders - they are reinvested into the organisation instead.·
What makes a social enterprise different?

We rely on our staff's expertise, skills and their understanding of our patients to succeed. This is why our staff are the shareholders in Bristol Community Health. Our surpluses can be reinvested into service development to constantly improve the way we do things. Our staff and our patients know better than anyone how to do this, and therefore our organisation is in their hands and not in the hands of private investors.

We have always lived by NHS principles and as a social enterprise we will continue to. Social enterprises are not about profit – they are about combining the best values of the NHS and the voluntary sector with business acumen and talent to generate surpluses for re-investment into the community - re-investment that will help people to live life well.

Annual Patient Satisfaction survey

Hundreds of patients across Bristol will be given the opportunity to make their voices heard and help shape community healthcare services when Bristol Community Health launches its annual patient survey this month.

The survey, which launches on Monday 16 September, will remain open to responses for six weeks and will give patients across 35 different community healthcare services in Bristol the opportunity to feed back before the October 31 deadline.

This year, the second year that Bristol Community Health has run its annual survey as an independent social enterprise, its patients will also be able to respond to the questionnaire online.
