Staff Turnover

What this data shows:

Turnover describes the rate that employees leave an establishment. Turnover of staff can disrupt the continuity of care and also involves a financial cost to the establishment for replacing members of staff who leave their role.

How the data is gathered:

Staff turnover is calculated by the number of leavers from an establishment over the previous twelve months as a percentage of the total number of employed staff at a given time. It may not necessarily be a representation of the quality of care provided.

The turnover calculations are based on the turnover bench mark ratio at service level and are in relation to England and not local level.

A turnover bench mark ratio of below 0.25 will yield a lower than average rating; between 0.25 and 1.75 will yield a within the typical range rating and above 1.75 yields a higher than average result.

When the data is shown:

The staff turnover rate of an establishment should not necessarily be interpreted as a measure of quality without considering other establishment level factors (e.g. CQC inspection outcomes).

More information about the data source:

Information is presented only for establishments providing residential care services to adults. System validation is used to ensure a high standard of data quality. Only those accounts who have allowed their data to be shared with the Department of Health (NHS.uk or MyNHS) are included.
