  1. Review titled Awful experience - Awful attitude of staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 May 2024

I came in with my mother today at 3:30pm at Blackburn royal hospital - urgent care centre. As she was called out to be seen in the ‘initial assessment’ the male nurse or whoever it was had a rude approach to my mother and me showing attitude and sarcasm. My mother doesn’t speak english and gets confused at times, but the nurse behaved in a rude manner toward us as my mother got confused about the medication she took today. No one should be treated like that and the NHS staff should learn how to respect their patients and show care. NHS shouldn’t hired such staff who are unable to be portray patience and do not have caring behaviour. This is ridiculous, and brings shame to the service. I do not know the male nurses name - he had a blue uniform on.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on NHS Website about your recent visit to the Urgent Treatment Centre at Burnley General Teaching Hospital with your mother. I am extremely sorry to hear of your recent experience and have fed your comments back to the senior staff and the Head of Nursing- Emergency and Acute Pathway. Confirmation has been provided that in line with other Trusts, the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre and Minor Injuries Unit are all experiencing a huge influx of patients attending and have seen waiting times exceed the 4-hour target on a regular basis. There has also been delays in transferring patients to inpatient beds because of the acuity and their clinical need, which needs to be met within a hospital setting and this has impacted on waiting times and the number of patients waiting in the department. The number of patients waiting to book into our Urgent Treatment Centres has also risen dramatically and we have seen long queues stretching outside of the hospital foyers which is unacceptable but unfortunately not always unavoidable. We are currently striving to implement additional tools and services to resolve this situation and ensure we deliver safe, personal, and effective care to all our patients and reduce the distress and frustration caused due to long waiting times. With regards to staff attitude when being reviewed at triage this will be discussed with all staff within the Urgent Treatment Centre. If you would like to provide further information about your experience you can contact the Patient Experience team by email at patientexperience@elht.nhs.uk Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further. Many thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback. Sarah Ridehalgh Patient Experience Facilitator

  2. Review titled Fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barbara - Posted on 09 May 2024

My 16 year nephew fell off his skateboard and needed urgent care. We attended A and E Blackburn, yesterday evening. After checking in using the iPad and then speaking to the receptionist we waited in a busy waiting area. Other patients that had been waiting were seen by the team, we didn’t wait long to be seen. The nursing staff and doctors were excellent. Their care was flawless. I appreciate that it’s a busy urgent care, and people waiting in corridors on beds, and in the waiting room. But despite the difficulties the staff face, they should be given more credit than they receive. I am grateful to all for the job that you do. A huge thank-you from us both.

  3. Review titled Shocking lack of care

Rated 1 star out of 5

I had to attend your hospital after my mum died. I work for the NHS in a different part of the country and i was horrified by the way your hospital deals with bereaved families and the deceased. Although there are probably many dedicated staff the ones i met came across as uncaring. I am really upset about the whole experience and hope i never have to visit your hospital ever again

  4. Review titled Rude staffing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Harriet - Posted on 16 April 2024

I went to go get a mri done, got into the room and I said will you be able to tell me if everything is ok after she rudely looked at me and said no and walked away. She then said to me you didn't tell me you had braces on and I said yes because it was not on the checklist you gave me and she looked at me with disgust, I said if you needed to know I have braces on you should of confirmed it with me before the mri. After the mri I had another nurse and she said very rudely, since you did not tell us you had braces your neurologist might want you take your braces off and I said back there's no need to be rude about it and I am not taking my braces off after 4 years for one scan and she said we'll it's not my decision I said in case you didn't know, I'm getting tested for seizures which requires an EEG and I said if you don't know what that is either it's a test to check for any abnormal brain electrical issues so I am not going back to blackburn hospital as the staff in the mri section are rude, arrogant, uneducated and disrespectful, I am young worried about my health and there's rude people in there treating younger kind patients who are worried with disrespect do not recommend this section at all.
