Belly dancing's great. It's for everybody.

It's really good all-round exercise.

You use muscles that you wouldn't use normally

like your lower back muscles and your abdominal muscles.

It's not only having fun and getting into shape

and feeling sexy and also feeling happy about your body,

you're also exercising your brain.

For me dancing is my life, especially belly dancing.

I've been doing it since I was young and I keep doing it.

We are here to demonstrate

a couple of simple, basic belly dance moves for you.

We are doing a veil dance today. We have chosen a veil dance.

What we are going to do is we are going to take a step forward

and lift the foot.

Down, four, five.

Step, lift, three, four, five.

Step, lift, three, four, five.

Step, lift, three, four, five.

Step, lift, three, four, five.

(Turkish music)

The next step is very isolated, with abdominals and your chest.

So what we do is pull, pull, lift, drop.

Pull, pull, lift, drop.

We pull in the lower abdominals

and then we pull in the upper abdominals

and we lift the chest and drop.

Pull, pull, lift, drop.

So we take a step with this.

And step, pull, three, four, drop.

Step, pull, three, four, drop.

Turn to the side, up, drop.

And... drop.

The next step is a travelling step.

We are going to be using our hip lifts on the side

and we are going to be using our chest lifts and drops as well.

The hand is right behind your head This is how we hold it.

And we take a step, lift, drop.

And step, lift, drop.

And step, lift, drop.

And step, lift, drop.

So if you do this all together.

And we take a cross step, lift, drop.

Cross step, lift, drop.

Cross step, lift, drop.

Cross step, lift, drop.

Back, lift, drop.

And back, lift, drop.

And back, lift, drop.

And back, lift, drop.

The next step we are going to do is a Turkish folkloric step.

Get our veil under control on this side by holding it.

And we take a step forward

for one, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

It's also called basic step, this, but it's very small

and at the same time what we are doing

is we are doing a figure eight with our veil.

Circle and circle.

(Turkish music)

So those were all the basic steps of this dance.

What we are going to do now is put it all together

and demonstrate the whole dance for you.
