  1. Review titled Amazing and supportive staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 January 2023

I have had contact with Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust staff for the last 3 years for my son who has Bipolar, using many of the teams, I found them all knowledgeable, helpful and kind to me and to my son. The team that has had the most impact, as they supported my son for 3 years was the Early Intervention Team, they were always there for him and for me how ever stressful the situation got. The Care Coordinator for my son was always quick to respond to me when I messaged them because I was worried about my son or I had a questions to ask.

  2. Review titled "One size fits all" Wellbeing Service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My experience of the Wellbeing service was a little bit hit & miss - it felt like a service based on the ethos of "one size fits all" and it did not seem to care about trying to give any long-term stability to its clients. I entered the service during the middle of the pandemic, and totally appreciate that staff shortages may have contributed to the long waiting lists...but it still felt like it was a very 'disjointed' process - I initially had a small number of sessions with a P.w.p (I did not find these especially helpful, if I am totally honest, as the P.w.p I was assigned to seemed very young & inexperienced, & it often felt like she was just reading a script off a prompt card or just speaking to me on auto-pilot before going off to do something more exciting...) I then suddenly got told I was being put on another waiting list for some more intense type of therapy…& at this point I was then left with no support from the service for about 5 months whilst I was waiting to get to the top of this waiting list. My anxiety levels increased dramatically during this time, & I would have much preferred to have missed the low intensity ‘therapy’ out altogether & just been put on the waiting list for the more intense therapy right at the beginning – I think this would have been much more helpful for my mental health. I was then very fortunate that the Cbt therapist I was assigned to after this was very down-to-earth, kind & compassionate, & always tried her best to make me feel at ease in my sessions. However, as a person who has a number of mental health struggles that have built up basically over a lifetime, & not just someone with one single “issue”, I was disappointed to then find out how the system actually works under the nhs 'Wellbeing' service ie that clients are discharged from the service when they have reached their 'quota' of sessions, rather than when they actually feel more ready to cope without any help. The Wellbeing Service claims on its website to offer “a range of flexible services tailored to meet your specific needs”...so surely, as a unique human being with your own unique life experiences, surely everyone deserves support tailored to their unique needs?....and if that means that someone needs a higher number of sessions with a therapist to help them in their recovery than the W.h.o “standard” says they should have, because they have more complex issues, then why shouldn’t they be entitled to that? I had my last session of therapy a couple of weeks ago and I now feel totally abandoned again by the service….my sessions did not end because I feel ready to cope without support, or my therapist feels I am ready to cope unsupported – they have ended because some random person who knows nothing about "me" has decided that it does not matter whether I am ok or not, all they care about is that I have used up my ‘set quota’ of sessions, so I must be discharged from the service. How is this service supporting vulnerable people?

The Recovery College is great. Anyone with mental health issues can access it. Just google Recovery College. Attend the "What is the Recovery College" webinar. It has been a lifeline for me. It has dozens of courses, general and specific. I hope you enjoy it ...
