  1. Review titled Thanks children's A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Great service from start to finish on our recent trip to A&E with my accident prone teenage son. The receptionist was friendly. Triage nurse was friendly, caring and professional, quickly ordering an Xray on my sons injured finger's. Thankfully the department wasn't too busy. The Doctor who examined the injury and Xrays again was Friendly and reassuring. Thanks A&E

The wait time was ridiculous. 11 hours and counting!!! Why is it so long? Draft more doctors in from other areas if necessary

Dear Aaron, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent experience at Whiston hospital. We are sorry that you feel your wait has been too long in the ED Department .This is not the service that we aim to provide, however all ED Departments Nationwide are under extreme pressure at the moment due to the numbers of patients attending. Presentation at ED is for life/limb threatening complaints, patients are assessed on arrival and are seen by a Dr in order of the severity of their complaint. If you are currently in ED and feel that your condition is worsening whilst you wait , please make this known to a member of staff. Thank you for your patience. We hope you feel better soon.

Woman in a&e spoke to me like absolute rubbish whilst I was being nice to her had no respect felt bullied I’m end of term pregnant was left there in pain for over 6 hours before they brought paracetamol was shouted out and told to go back in the waiting room because I shouldn’t of been called I was suffering in pain around a room full of sick people when I’m due to have the baby next week so if I get sick I will bring it to the ward where there is newborns about I’ve been sitting here in pain for nearly 9 hours now just to see one person when I should of been in pregnancy triage not a&e there is no communication in here between nurses and doctors and when I ask what’s going on they say they don’t know and you just have to wait 10 hours in other members who were sick had to say to them how disgusting they were being and one finally brought a pillow into the a&e for me staff ask for respect and don’t give it to you some of them was lovely but they really don’t know what there doing I recommend you go else where because you would probably have to be close to death to be seen

  4. Review titled Fantastic support and care wards 2d and also Ic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michelle - Posted on 07 April 2024

My daughter was brought in via ambulance to A&E having suffered a long seizure. Whilst we appreciate A&E were busy (and we were able to access some games in the cubicles bay via the Boredom Buster cupboard), it was disappointing that having expected to be discharged, the first we knew she was being moved to a ward, without any explanation from a doctor or nurse, was from a Porter came to transport her to 1c. The staff on 1c were lovely and a fabulous nurse looked after her for the duration of her stay there. With an escalation in seizures, within 24 hours she was moved to 2d and spent a further 10 days there. The staff on 2d were exceptional in their care and each and everyone of them (with the exception of one very rude and dismissive agency nurse who we only had the misfortune to have to encounter once) went over and above to look after both our daughter and also support us as as family during a very challenging time. The kindness, reassurance and compassion, as well as quick wit and humour of the staff, helped to make an unpleasant time a lot more bearable. The ward was clearly busy and there were multiple challenging patients as well as many who were very ill, yet nothing was too much trouble. There were several times when due to my daughter's ongoing seizures she required additional support from staff, and despite how busy they were she received an excellent standard of care from every Health Care Assistant, Nurse, Student Nurse, Radiologist / Scanner and Doctor. As well as all the medical professionals, the catering and housekeeping teams were fantastic - our daughter's room was kept so clean, she was well fed and watered, but also the way in which all staff treated us as a family really mattered, from a quick hello to a how are you, really made a difference and broke up many a long day. We are not allowed to leave names as per the review rules - that's probably not a bad thing as we may leave someone out of we tried to recall everyone who has been a big help these last couple of weeks. Thank you xxxx

Dear Michelle, thank you for taking the time to provide your very detailed feedback. I am sorry that your daughters admission was not communicated to you prior to the porter collecting her from A&E, I will feed this back to the team down in the department, and also that you found the 'Boredom Buster' games helped pass the time in A&E. I will share the rest of your fantastic feedback with the staff on wards 2D and 1C who will be delighted to read your comments, not only your comments on their care and compassion, but also how they helped make a worrying time for you much more bearable by providing yourself support at a time when you needed it. The staff will be delighted to read your comments, not only on the excellent care they provided to your daughter, but the care and support they provided to your family. We hope your daughter is fully recovered, and wish you and your family all the very best for the future. Patient Inclusion and Experience team

  5. Review titled Really lovely staff

Just had a baby on the 18th of March 5 days ago and just wanted so say how amazing all the staff were at looking after us. I’m not allowed to mention names but the midwife looking after us all in the morning when we were booked in for a c- section was really lovely and so calming and made me feel so comfortable I can’t thank her enough and hope she sees this because I struggle with anxiety and I didn’t feel anxious because of how settled she made me Feel. All the staff who did my c -section were just amazing and it was just a gorgeous experience meeting my little boy they are amazing at their jobs and deserve the world for what they do. I had my first daughter with this hospital in 2020 and honestly if you are having a baby this hospital is recovering so much, to all the midwives doctors everyone thank you so much remember how amazing you all are and thank you for bringing my children into the world safely. Forever grateful Jh.

  8. Review titled Very poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

My mum is at the end of life stage with severe copd. The hospital is our second home and has been for a number of years. They have always been excellent and really looked after my mum but the past few years especially since covid the hospital has gone extremely downhill. My mum is a regular in the resus dept which has always been fantastic. Resus doctors and nurses have always been excellent and shown care and support towards mum and our family. However once on the wards that's when the problems start. My mum fell out of the bed a few days ago onto the floor and hurt herself. I brought this to the attention of one of the nurses on the ward who said well I do not lock my patients into bed of a night. Why I asked. My mum is under five stone and severely thin. One of the family asked for help to be told I am busy you will just have to wait. My mum was left without oxygen as the nurses had forgotten to reconnect it back onto the wall after doing observations. Until a family member noticed this when visiting. I came to take mum home on wednesday and was told I could not enter as there was flu on the ward. Yet the whole family had been there visiting morning, noon and night for the past week. Most staff are lovely and caring but there are a few young nurses who seem to think they have authority and can speak to you anyway they want. This is the last thing we need as a family who are nursing our mum at the end stage of life. I will not allow it.

  9. Review titled Fantastic staff and level of care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Murphy - Posted on 26 February 2024

My mother was recently admitted to Whiston Hospital I would like to say a massive thanks to the Doctor's, Nurses and all staff from ward 3d for their professionalism and the level of care they provided to my mother. They are a credit to themselves and the NHS. All the staff were fantastic but there was one Nurse in particular who was outstanding. Apparently I can't say whether it was a Male or female etc in this review but the person in question was foreign and even though they were constantly busy juggling ten things at once they were always smiling and polite and professional The NHS would crumble without people like this
