  1. Review titled Great staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Terese Starkey - Posted on 16 November 2022

I visited the department and was seen just before my appointment time. All the staff were friendly and helpful Especially the Doctor and Nurse that were with me for my appointment. I'm sorry I didn't remember your names. The doctor talked me through my review in a friendly and efficient manner. The Nurse was lovely, she smiled and wished me well after being discharged. Well done keep up the good work your are appreciated.

  2. Review titled The worst care I’ve ever received

    by Jenr111 - Posted on 26 October 2022

I was admitted to Sandwell hospital towards the end of October after spending 8 hours in a different A&E department to find I possibly needed emergency surgery. I was admitted to the SEAU. I had a 13:15 appointment. I was seen almost immediately by a doctor who was very kind, compassionate and had my best interested at heart. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for any of the nurses on that ward. I found them all to be rude, obnoxious and did not want to listen to a patients opinion. The student nurse and the HCA’s could not be faulted though. As I suffer with mental health issues I have to have someone with me at all times. The ward refused to let my carer stay with me and we were both sent to sit on metal prison like chairs in the corridor and forgotten about. After over an hour in the corridor, my carer asked how long until they would have a bed for me, only to be told that they already had one waiting, no one informed us of this and had she not asked, we’d probably still be sat in the corridor now. I was then moved to Lyndon ward. The first nurse I saw could not be faulted. They were lovely, compassionate and knew how to make me feel comfortable, it’s a shame that can not be said for any other nurse on that ward. When the night shift came on, a nurse came in and tried to tell me I had to move from the side room into a bay. I explained that there were reasons I was in a side room and I was unable to be in a bay. They shrugged and said that if they had to wake me up to move me at 2:00 am then they would. I also asked for some medication as I was in a lot of pain and was left waiting over 4 hours for this, despite asking more than once. By the end of the evening, the night doctor came to see me. They were lovely, listened to me and provided patient centred care. I ended up self discharging as I felt uncomfortable and uncared for at Sandwell hospital. I would never go back.

I would like to apologise for the negative experience you had when visiting Sandwell Hospital. This is not the kind of care we would expect our patients to receive. I was glad to read that you did have positive experiences with some of our staff, however I recognise that we should deliver consistently good care throughout. Therefore, I would like your experience to be investigated further so that we can ensure the right care is given to our patients by all our staff. Would you be able to share your details with the communications team by emailing them at swbh.comms@nhs.net please? Kind regards, Richard Beeken, Chief Executive.

  4. Review titled Professional Care and Personal Concern

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 August 2022

I visited Sandwell A&E nearly two weeks ago as I was in great pain. Once I was admitted I was made well again over the course of the next 10 days, the staff dealing with both the reason for my admission and an undiagnosed problem which they discovered during my care. At all times during my short stay in the Surgical Assessment Unit and a much longer stay in Priority 2 ward, I was treated professionally and felt that my health personally mattered to those to whom I had entrusted my care. Staff would explain why they were doing things and were friendly despite the pressure that many were under dealing with many patients at once. I won't name any individuals, especially as my care was a team effort by the various care teams involved. Today I was discharged as a patient and although I know that the staff involved would just say they were doing their jobs, they did them very well with both humanity and humour. Thank you.

  5. Review titled Results?

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I visited here 19.08.2022 for a MRI scan on my knee. Firstly I was advised it was my right knee that needed to be scanned and it wasn't it was my left. Scan etc went fine and staff were pleasant. My issue is, five weeks later I am still waiting for results and am still in pain!

  6. Review titled Brilliant staff from start to finish

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was so anxious and scared when I attended but each and every person made the whole experience so much easier From the nurses who held my hand and reassured me to another who even gave me a hug to the nurses that assisted or scanned me and to the Doctor who took her time to explain what was going to happen finishing with the lovely nurse who told me not to rush from the recovery room and said come right back if you don’t feel okay when I was leaving - thank you so much
