  1. Review titled Exemplary care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Lucas - Posted on 16 September 2023

I came in to a&e with a hypertensive crisis, at a point where the nhs online advice is to seek urgent medical help. I was given detailed and extremely kind attention throughout, and always made to feel it had been the right thing to do in attending a&e. Major tests all carried out as promptly as possible, a Consultant reviewed all the results with a new medication prescribed, and further tests to be organised has left me feeling a great deal less anxious now than 24hrs ago. My final overriding thought was just how kind everyone was to me from Triage to leaving the Dept. Which makes a significant diffference when you have a real problem and really scared. So great thanks from me, David Lucas

  2. Review titled Great service but lacking one thing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ian smith - Posted on 10 October 2023

The reception, doctors and nurses couldn’t do more than the do, they are exceptional. My problem was that I’d been there eight and a half hours with nothing to eat so when the doctor asked me to wait and see someone else I just left. I felt better when I arrived, by now I was getting hot, delirious and starving. My whole point is not about me, wouldn’t it be possible to put a vending machine and a coffee machine in the waiting area if people are going to have to wait that long. Not only would you be providing a service it would also make a profit towards the upkeep of such a valuable service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of our emergency department services. It is lovely to hear of the care received from our staff, but I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you encountered in accessing refreshments during your visit. I can appreciate how challenging this must be whilst waiting for care and treatment. There are vending machines in the minors waiting area but not in the chairs waiting area. We do provide a table with squash/water in the majors chairs area and we do have sandwiches for patients who have been waiting for a period of time but these are not obvious and need the patient to request or for the nurse to offer, and clearly you were not offered these. I am very sorry. I would like to assure you that your feedback has been shared with the clinical leads of our emergency departments, who are reviewing how refreshments are better made available to patients waiting. Please do contact our PALS and Complaints Team if you wish to discuss your experience further. They can be contacted via email: PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or telephone: 01256 486766. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience with us. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

  4. Review titled Highest possible professional service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Colin Neeves - Posted on 22 July 2023

The Royal County Hospital Winchester. Once again I have had to spend patient time in the above hospital. On Sunday last (16/07/23) I suffered a severe bout of breathlessness so dialled 111. Within 30 mins two brilliant Paramedics arrived, carried out various tests and decided hospital best next step. Straight into A&E where Nurses and Doctors took over. Lots more tests, including X-ray, ECG and blood tests. Food and drink bought to my bed too. Eventually I was taken to Shawford Ward which looks after respiratory patients. And so from my 111 call to location in a ward, my admission took about 6 hours, I had seen specially trained Doctor’s and Nurses, had been fed and watered, had X-ray, ECG and blood tests taken. Throughout the week I was visited by Heart and lung Consultants, specially trained Nurses, occupational health team members, had a CT scan, Ultra Sound Scan, I had the works. I was looked after, and cared for, and I witnessed the devotion to duty and care given to the other patients in the ward. I would like to place on public record my eternal thanks for the highest quality of care I received from all pthe NHS Doctors, Nurses, and the teams that make up the total care package given to us patients there, Special thanks to all the team in Shawford Ward, an amazing bunch of professional, dedicated, highly trained and caring staff. Good Bless you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  5. Review titled Excellent Team Performance

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Charlie Quinn - Posted on 26 August 2023

The hospital process - from the initial x-ray, consultant's review, scan, and subsequent follow-up, pre-operation assessment, and finally the hip surgery replacement procedure and after-care - was undertaken in a highly professional way. The medical and supporting services personnel provided high standard care and assistance in a polite, friendly and cheerful manner. They are a credit to the hospital and the NHS. The surgical procedure has substantially increased my mobility, significantly reduced pains, and improved my well-being - I'm very grateful.

  6. Review titled Quick resolution, sympathetic attitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 July 2023

Went to A&E with very swollen eye from a bee sting as advised by my local surgery. Although not particularly urgent or serious, I was seen quite quickly and the staff were very sympathetic and supportive. Once they established it wasn’t a serious allergic reaction, they located some steroids, advised me and sent me on my way. Total time, not much over an hour.

  7. Review titled Professional and compassionate.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Gill Ranger - Posted on 28 July 2023

My elderly mother sadly passed away whilst being treated for pneumonia on Shawford Ward. The staff on the ward were all so professional, kind, compassionate and supportive during the 9 days my mum was in their care. There were many individuals who stood out, whether from providing a cup of tea and a hug, to those providing dignified personal care for mum, to the Drs, Consultant and nurses who treated mum and made her last days as comfortable as possible. Recent, previous experiences of poor care for my mother on other wards, within the same hospital, had left me with low expectations and concerns that we would experience the same again but my fears were unfounded. Shawford Ward is a busy ward but all the staff we encountered were amazing and made me feel that nothing was too much trouble, despite being very busy. The Drs and the consultant, all took the time to discuss mum's condition and her treatment with myself and my family and listened and responded appropriately when we raised any concerns. Being made to feel involved and fully informed as mum's condition changed, really helped us to come to terms with a very sad and difficult situation. I'd like to say thank you to all on Shawford Ward for their kindness, compassion, professionalism and as importantly for restoring my faith in the hospital and the fabulous job our NHS do.

  9. Review titled Really Helpful and Kind

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 May 2023

The staff at the hospital did everything they could to help me through a process that I felt very nervous about. I rarely visit hospitals (I do my best to stay away), so I can find hospitals - and their administration - a little confusing. I mixed up the times of a scan - but they still managed to fitted me in. At one point I got lost between buildings, but a really kind porter from Medical Imagery helped me to find the right door. Thank you all very much. Your help and time was really appreciated.
