  1. Review titled Great staff in children’s emergency dept

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anon - Posted on 10 June 2024

Despite it being really busy - my son was seen quite quickly. The staff are all fantastic. My only concerns were related to infection control. I did not see staff washing their hands or cleaning the obs machines. 5hrs+ and didn’t observe this once. Also wondering about the soft toe sats probes - as I assume these are disposable?

Went with very high blood pressure. Gave me a very thorough examination. Very caring. Even gave me a meal at SDEC since the wait was quite long.

  3. Review titled Great Service at X-Ray Dept

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Scarratt - Posted on 14 June 2024

I'm leaving this review due to the service I received from the receptionist within the Radiology Department. She was struggling to get my details up on the system and eventually they did - no fault of their own. She spoke to my surgery and they agreed to resend the information and she also sorted the issue with the IT dept. Exceptional service with a pleasant attitude which was very much appreciated.

  4. Review titled Endoscopy Unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jack - Posted on 03 June 2024

Very positive experience attending as an outpatient. The staff on duty on Sunday 2 June were all were very professional and caring. I was seen on time, the procedure and the options regarding the treatment were explained to me. I was taken into the operating room and the procedure went ahead. After the procedure I was taken to recovery given coffee and biscuits. The results were given to me on the day and I was discharged (no further action required). As I was being picked up I was allowed to go home after a short period of time.

  5. Review titled Conflicting appointments

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Ian Macleod - Posted on 13 June 2024

I received a text on late on Thursday 6th for an appointment at QE2 on Monday 10th. I already had an appointment at Lister for the same morning so I phoned to cancel the Lister appointment as the QE2 was more urgent. Today, 13th I received a letter dated 7th apologising that that the appointment on the 10th st Lister had to be cancelled and gave me a new date for 23rd September. This appointment was for a three month follow-up from February 2023.

  7. Review titled Ward 11a South

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by Michelle B - Posted on 16 May 2024

I was admitted as an emergency to this ward. All the staff and I mean all of them from the porters and cleaners to the ward doctors were fantastic, some in particular but you're not allowed to put names on here which is a shame. The people who brought you tea and coffee throughout the day were my favourites, always with a smile and if you're in hospital a good cup of tea or coffee can make the world of difference to your mood, I can't speak for the coffee as I didn't have any, but the tea was outstanding every time! The nurses are fantastic, always willing to try and help you in any way they can and the ward doctors actually care about you, you're not just a case number to them, these guys work in a tremendously high pressure environment with some antiquated rules and regulations, but they are always smiling and ready to help! All of the ward staff, in any ward, in any hospital are the true angels of the NHS!

  8. Review titled The most amazing birth experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lucy Dore - Posted on 19 May 2024

I gave birth on the Midwife Led unit on 16/05 and honestly felt like we could not fault the services of this team. Myself and my partner found the experience so positive and can honestly say we enjoyed the experience. The team could not have done enough for us and we were given as much support or privacy as we needed. The birthing room was set up beautifully (not unlike some of the birthing rooms I’ve seen at the Portland) and we were able to stay in there until we left with our little one. As first time parents we were so grateful to have had this experience and I really encourage other parents who are eligible to go on the midwife led side. We were a little worried about being away from doctors in case of emergency but when the red light was signalled as little one was struggling to breathe when she came out, we had over 10 people in like a shot, they kept us calm and within seconds they baby was happy and back in my arms. We personally did not feel that our care was in any way compromised and if anything, due to the ward being very quiet, I actually think we got a far better response than we would have had if we went into the consultant led unit as it is naturally busier. I also wanted to leave some comments about the community midwife support received as I also feel we have had exceptional care in this regard also. Our community midwife has seen me for every single appointment since pregnancy and has even gone to the trouble of moving around holiday just so I can be seen by her continuously. She has made it to my home twice on times where home visits have been easier for me and has always been around to help me even out of hours. To me this is the true definition of ‘above and beyond’ and way beyond any expectations I had. There’s a lot of pressure on the NHS (particularly maternity services) at the moment but I can honestly say we couldn’t have been more looked after and we were so lucky to come in contact with such wonderful people who truly deserve some positive recognition.

  9. Review titled Extremely poor communication

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 May 2024

My mother (96)was admitted to the lister on Monday evening. My family and I have tried repeatedly to make contact with the hospital for updates via telephone. Now more than 36 hours later I finally spoke to a nurse. Surely when family live far away, someone could call with updates?
