  1. Review titled Great team of staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son had surgery here and although there was some mix up with us not being on the list for the day, we have been fitted in and operation happened on the day. Care was exceptional and staff was very professional and caring. Very grateful for their service.

  2. Review titled Not very friendly

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My husband & I are pregnant for the first time and we were very excited to have our first scan at 12 weeks. We walked into the ultrasound department and it looked abit derelict to be honest, and nobody was there to greet us, so we just sat down and waited wondering what we do. Finally the ultrasound clinician came out and called us into this dingy room. Being my first scan I had no clue what to expect. I was offered the extra testing which I agreed too and it was straight onto the bed and straight into it. Not really much care or chatting from the clinician, which really ruined the moment for us. My husbands chair was also far away from the bed which felt a little weird because it felt like he was far away from me. I wanted a video of the baby moving on the screen but my husband was promptly told that no photos were allowed to be taken preceding by ‘We charge you for photos £5 for 1 or £10 for 3’. We were done within a few minutes and soon rushed out to go pay for our scans at a machine like a car parking ticket for the clinician to come out and ‘check’ we had paid for them. Like we were children… In all honesty it felt a little rushed & like we were not trusted to not pay for our scans. It was a little bit of a weird experience and left me feeling abit weird… I understand why it was recently given such a bad rating by the care commission. I would not want to give birth here let alone go back. Seemed like a rush to get me in and out with no care at all…

  3. Review titled Terrific Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The Emergency Assessment Unit delivered great care to me and the people around me. They seemed to be on top of things and had a consistently caring attitude. The facilities looked to be maintained to a good standard and well utilised - for the areas I saw, bed spaces were occupied most of the time. I would like to highlight staff members I had direct experience of but I understand the review wont be seen.

  5. Review titled Exceptional, professional care, attention and service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The Rowan Day Hospital provides a high quality service that is efficient, caring and professional with dedicated staff who show high levels of genuine interest and demonstrate medical expertise. Everything about my visit was top class, from the Doctors, nurses, auxiliary staff and canteen lady with the tea trolley. Cleanliness and hygiene were actively being kept to the highest standards. This Hospital is an example of the NHS at it’s very best and I feel so lucky and grateful to have been admitted there. Thank you to you all.

  6. Review titled Waiting

Rated 2 stars out of 5

The wait time at A&E is extortionate. Poor communication with patients and their family while they wait for hours on end in an almost empty department. Ambulance staff were wonderful

  7. Review titled Above and beyond

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son was admitted into hospital again after an acute illness. He was unfortunately in over his birthday. Every single staff member in that practice ensure they went above and beyond to treat my son with empathy, kindness and professionalism. Their reassurance to him and to us was exceptional and they ensured not one moment of his birthday was a miss. The donations that they have received is incredible just so they can make sure no child misses out. He received lots of wonderful new toys and teddies, as well as smiles all around. This was our second visit within two months where I also had to stay with him at night. They ensured we were equipped with anything we needed and looked after me as his parent also. Couldn’t be without this service as I had a daughter at home waiting for me, there’s no way I could staying in another hospital as well as trying to be there for my daughter.

  8. Review titled Prompt and appropriate care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Frederick Price - Posted on 21 January 2024

I had a septic little finger which had been bothering me for ten days. On arrival at A&E at Horton in Banbury the staff greeted me promptly, took my details, and asked me to wait. After 40 minutes I was seen by a super nurse who was competent and compassionate. For the medical profession my issue was presumably routine and tiny, but the nurse and the doctor made me feel all-important. After a brief examination the necessary minor op took place. The nurse and doc were incredibly supportive. They then gave me follow up advice and sent me on my way. 10/10.

  9. Review titled Jaw droppingly incompetent

Rated 1 star out of 5

My mother collapsed after being ill a week. She was taken by ambulance to the Horton. They wouldn’t let me in despite her being too unwell to really speak, they said they were too busy to allow me through to advocate for her. They expelled her 6 hours later having left her on sitting upright in a chair all day, saying she had a ‘blood infection’. She collapsed again the following day and was covered in septic rash (blood infection!!) when we got to the JR they could see she’d been x rayed at the Horton and had pneumonia (primary infection). No-one had even told her, let alone me that she had pneumonia! The JR could not believe she’d been let go with infection markers over 240 (they’re supposed to be below 5). The staff at the Horton were rude, dismissive and told her to walk to the pharmacy to get some antibiotics - she could barely say her own name! Honestly she’d be dead if she didn’t have family who had taken her back to a better hospital the following day. I am shocked by how terrible this experience was. Thankfully I don’t live in the UK and have access to much better free healthcare (average a&e wait time of 15 minutes!!), and this experience has made me push my mum to move out with us. To treat someone in their 70’s who was this unwell this badly is just inhumane. If you can, go to the John Radcliffe - you’ll still wait but it’s a much bigger much better hospital with staff who aren’t all straight out of uni with no clue.
