  1. Review titled ever reducing respect for patients and quality of service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 November 2023

Outpatient service hours have been reduced to 1:00pm, but what is not mentioned is that there is a staff lunch break during these operational hours of 45 minutes. Common sense would say that such a long break could be taken after 1:00pm. Maybe something else is going on but this place seems to have an ever reducing respect for patients and quality of service.

  2. Review titled Disgusted with parking

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Tracy Wedge - Posted on 08 June 2023

As a disabled patient i am disgusted with the disabled parking facilities at Dorothy Patterson Hospital. Each time i go to an appnt i have to park so far away from the entrance that i am in excruciating pain when i get to my appnt. Also the cars that are parked in the disabled spaces do not have blue badges displayed. I expressed my concerns at the hospital but all they said was there was nothing they could do.

Hi Tracy, thanks for leaving this review and we will certainly be escalating this to our facilities team as they are best placed to look at monitoring this situation and taking action where possible. Sorry that you have had to experience this at one of our sites particularly whilst there is also a shortage of spaces at Dorothy Pattison due to the new building work. If you wish to discuss the details further please get in touch with our Service Experience Desk at SED.bchft@nhs.net or on 0800 587 7720

  3. Review titled Outpatient

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been in a few instructions as an inpatient and this is by far the worst I have ever been to. The staff do not care about you, I had a 4 hour ward leave and I didn’t come back for 2 days and they didn’t even realise, I brought energy drinks in and everything. I phoned outpatients today to see if I could get a sick note and the first receptionist sounded like a rude child who didn’t want to be at her job, then put me through to someone else without telling me and just a grunt then the next person I spoke to was miserable also. I’m here for a reason and then being horrible on the phone doesn’t help this. Really need to sort the staff out or re train them on having empathy. Disgusting behaviour

  4. Review titled Poor staff training

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by jane Callaghan - Posted on 29 December 2022

Now wouldn't you think that some of the more essential attributes and requirements to be a receptionist in a mental health hospital would be kindness and empathy. You are first point of call for vulnerable people calling in and face to face patients. Then, how on earth did the receptionists in the main reception at Dorothy Patterson get past the first interview, my daughter had to drop in today to collect a prescription that had been arranged, she was met with rudeness, and spoken to in a unacceptable manner, luckily her doctor came out and he was lovely, kind, chatty and immediately put her at ease. I have previously raised concerns about the reception staff, I had a visit from a representative of the hospital who assured me more training would be given to this role, sadly 3 years on I can confirm either the training didn't take place or some staff members are in urgent need of a refresher course. To confirm the reception staff in the outpatients are much better

  5. Review titled Only medication no therapy, advised to go private

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 December 2022

I've been admited to Dorothy Pattison for a severe depression in September 2022. I was medicated until I got well and then sent home to be supported by home treatment department. There is no therapy support, nurses are doing their best to keep us safe and well, however the psychiatrists seem interested in fixing you for the moment and send you home. No talking therapy while being in hospital, after care support is advising me every week to go private for therapy as there are 5years long queues with NHS.

Thank you for leaving this comment and your kind words in relation to the nurses keeping you safe and well. As an admission to the ward is often a short term part of an individuals recovery the focus is on medication and the therapeutic programme run by the ward staff. The formal talking therapies programme can be part of a persons continued treatment plan which is provided as part of the ongoing support. This allows time for an effective therapeutic relationship between therapist and person to be established. We fully understand that such long waiting lists can be frustrating for the individual when trying to access treatment, and we will continue to review this in support of your comments.
