  1. Review titled Surgical experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stephen Pike - Posted on 04 May 2024

The whole team, but especially the nurses and anesthetist, were great from the start of the process to discharge. I was very nervous and they helped me through the process while not devaluing my own feelings/experience which I very much appreciated. Although the full procedure could not be completed on that day the professionalism shown and explanation as to why encouraged me to look forward to the second stage and completion of the procedure which I hope is in the near future! With any luck I'll have the same team looking after me and if not would be confident that the rest of the department would act in the same manner. My only regret was that I did not get the opportunity to thank everyone involved on the day so hopefully this message can be relayed as a sign of my gratitude.

  2. Review titled Fantastic, caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jean Richardson - Posted on 01 May 2024

I attended Radiology department this afternoon but as this department was not on the list, I chose orthopaedic, this being the nearest I could find. I didn't have to wait long for the CT scan and must praise the staff who undertook the procedure. They were very considerate and helpful. I told them I had an appointment at a later date for an ultrasound scan and they very kindly arranged for this to be done after the CT scan to save me another journey to the hospital. Cannot praise the staff highly enough.

A thank you to all concerned. My recent experience at the urology unit was excellent from start to finish. I want to extend a sincere thank you to the surgical team, comprised of efficient and caring professionals, who handled the procedure smoothly. The recovery team ensured a smooth recovery process. Throughout my two-night stay, the nursing staff were attentive and compassionate, making me feel comfortable and cared for.

  5. Review titled Thank you very much

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Geraldine Miller - Posted on 28 April 2024

Went into A and E via ambulance as sitting patient, asked to lie down as felt so ill but not allowed to in assessment room or before, not good but doctor, who I saw quite quickly, very good and assessed quickly after X-ray, blood tests etc and diagnosed dehydration and low sodium levels. Put on fluids with sodium IV drip quickly. Eventually sent up to Ward 34 on drip and doctor seen very good and explained well. Nurses good too. Then sent to Ward 41for 2 nights where also diagnosis, which also included lung infection, and care by doctors, nurses and pharmacist excellent. They explained everything really carefully and fully. I would like to thank everyone who dealt with me in the hospital very much.

  6. Review titled Excellent care throughout

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted to the Gynaecology team for Laparoscopy and my experience was excellent from admission to discharge. Very caring and understanding staff who couldn't do enough. I stayed overnight in ward 62 and again everyone was empathetic and caring. The ward was scrupulously clean and all staff were brilliant. Thank you

  7. Review titled Great care & treatment.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Carpenter - Posted on 16 April 2024

I was admitted into day surgery for some gynaecology procedures. I was anxious beforehand but I needn’t have worried as every staff member treated me with the utmost care. The Consultant visited me following surgery to check I was ok & showed me photos of the results which I thought was a nice thing to do. The anaesthetist was especially kind in ensuring I had a heated blanket following surgery etc. I can’t praise this team enough - they were all so kind to me & made sure I was well looked after (far far better than my previous experience at Durham - UHND for similar procedure a few years ago).

  8. Review titled Accidental fall in Barnard Castle

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Margaret Robinson - Posted on 28 March 2024

Had a fall in Barnard Castle, ambulance to A&E at Darlington, transfer from paramedics to A&E staff was prompt and caring. Excellent care in A&E, CT Scan and radiology Long waits for results of tests but understandable. Transferred to room on trolley while getting adequate pain relief for hip injury. Nurse transferred me to a bed and I remained in the room for the rest of my time at the hospital. Seen by physio late morning to assess mobility, lovely staff. Able to go home in the afternoon, but I am from Cumbria and had no transport home. My son was in Brighton but it would have taken 6 hours for him to pick me up, asked about hospital transport, and it was provided so I was on my way home in Paramedics car with a lovely student paramedics driver. From my accident at 5pm on Sunday and home at 5pm Monday, all my care was fantastic. I am battered and bruised with a torn eardrum and very painful hip, but recovering well . The only negative aspects were food. Breakfast soggy toated white bread with spread I don't think it was butter! There didn't appear to be a choice. Lunch was a turkey sandwich, which came in cardboard box, a paper thin slither of processed turkey between 2 slices of white bread with the same spread. Hospitals should be making more effort with healthy food. Drinks also in cardboard takeaway cups, not easy for an 82 year old who couldn’t sit up properly. Also the waste generated by the plastic tumblers must be substantial and not eco friendly .I hope the patients on the wards are offered better food. I certainly couldn't have lived on what I was given for any more than 24 hours.

  9. Review titled Dangerous and lack of care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Alex - Posted on 10 February 2024

Sent my baby home twice with a ‘viral infection’. Did no further testing just dismissed my concerns with a load of stupid excuses. Took her to Newcastle RVI because I did not trust either of the consultants in Darlington who saw her and lo and behold after an hour and actually testing done on her she had a water infection and needed antibiotics. Newcastle already told me she had symptoms of a UTI. First consultant in Darlington said it was because of her reflux. The second consultant said it’s because she had a viral cold. If you don’t care enough to investigated a 6 month old babies symptoms you shouldn’t be a doctor.
