  1. Review titled A quick and efficient response .

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I was able to see a doctor this morning about an hour after initially speaking to a receptionist. She was pleasant and helpful as was the doctor . I had a brief phone call and then a face to face appointment shortly after. A positive experience all round . Thank you .

Dear Mr Ball, Thank you for your feedback. I can understand how you may have expected some follow up following your request to arrange a blood test. I am sorry the process was not clarified with you at the time of booking. The practice performs thousands of investigations, particularly blood tests, every year as part of our management of acute and chronic health conditions and monitoring of medications. Unfortunately, we do have the resources to inform every patient about their results, so our policy is to focus on those that require action. These means if results are normal, or require no action, we do not routinely inform patients – no news is good news. However, because we understand that many patient want to know that all is well, we have a dedicated results line that patients can phone to discuss their results with a health professional. Many blood tests for chronic conditions are performed only once a year, and to make it easier for staff and patients we try to arrange these during patients’ birthday month. It saves the practice a lot of extra work if patients note when their test is due and book their annual test, but if we note that it is overdue, we send reminders. A request to arrange a test does not imply that a review will follow; if the results are with normal limits, or unchanged from previous, we are usually happy to leave things until the next annual review is due, unless the patient informs us of any concerns. I can confirm that all your relevant blood tests have been performed during the last few years. Patients may find the actual tests requested may alter from time to time in line with changes to guidance, or in response to changes in medication regimes. If patients have any concerns about their medication or results the best thing is to contact the practice using the online triage service so that someone can get back to them. 3. Review titled Terrible

Everything at this practice is for the convenience of its staff or doctors, not for the patients. From the carpark mainly being for staff and doctors, to the fact you can't make appointments while you are at the practice, even if you have just seen the doctor or nurse. You are forced to ring up and wait for between 20-30 minutes on the phone. You can no-longer use the online triage system as it seems people were putting urgent issues on there. This was supposed to be back working in the new year. Therefore the phones are once again clogged. The reception staff are often rude and you are made to feel that they are doing you a favour by 'helping'. The practise manager is invisible and non-contactable unless to won't to write in. They often close for 'staff training', often for the whole day. You can also receive a text informing you that they are at 'full capacity' and not to contact them unless it's 'urgent', this can happen several times a week. This is also used when doctors, nurses or staff are 'poorly', its pathetic. On their long introduction message when you call you are told 'if the matter is urgent, goto A&E! They are still harping on about covid and 'through the pandemic'. They don't have anyone to preform asthma reviews but still write to you to make an appointment, again wasting your time, 30 minutes waiting on the phone. All this means you don't want to contact they, I have put off many health concerns, i tried to address these recently but the experience is horrible and you are made to feel like they are doing you a big favour by just seeing you. As a result they are not fit for purpose. If you can, go somewhere else it can't honestly be worse.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you have formed this impression, as I can assure you we are trying our utmost to deliver very good care for all of our patients. Without our patients we have no purpose as a GP Practice, so our patients are our highest priority. I am sure you will be aware that the whole of the NHS has been in a position of being overwhelmed over the winter period, and this GP Practice was no exception. Winter has brought with it a severe and enduring period of coughs, colds, chest infections, strep A crisis, and Covid has not gone away either. Staff can and do become unwell too, hence the messages about staff sickness at times. We had to stop our triage service due to overwhelm. To continue would have raised false expectations and been clinically unsafe too. We hope soon to bring back online the very popular triage. We of course remained fully open but now via telephone access for appointments and booking in for check-ups. I accept this put more pressure on the phone lines, and so longer telephone answering waits. This of course is not ideal, and not where we want to be. Our phone message is meant to be informative. We are not a hospital, nor walk-in centre so it is important to highlight if having chest pain , signs of a stroke , intense suicidal thoughts, the correct course of action is 999. Staff training is only 1 afternoon every month, over 10 months and 1pm-5pm. Cover is provided by 111, and if any cover is lacking, we remain fully open We have now recruited Doctors Washbrook and Dougherty to replace Doctors Bailey and Wakefield and recruited four new nurses into our team. These six clinical staff are now in post and seeing patients. This includes a nurse highly skilled in the management of asthma and COPD. Our teams give 100% of themselves every day, please be assured We offer parking for Doctors as they need to be able to leave and get back quickly to do home visits. Most staff travel in and so need parking. Parking is provided for patients, for use when and only when visiting the GP Practice. Our reception staff do a very tough job. They can be dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t and so deserve our respect. I am not aware of any trend of rudeness, and we will not tolerate any rudeness to patients. If I have not been available when asked for, I apologise. I am happy of course to meet you face to face to take more feedback and review your feedback in more detail. Feel free to e-mail me on paul.carroll5@nhs.net and I shall arrange a meeting at our mutual convenience. Yours Sincerely Paul Carroll , Practice Manager.

  5. Review titled Brilliant

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had to call the surgery twice this week which is not usual for me. Both times I was dealt with politely by the reception team because I needed help after the designated cut off time for online triage (which has also been brilliant in my experience). Very efficient service and two very helpful GPs to whom I am very grateful. Thank you!
