Since November there has been something going on between Norman's chemist & the surgery. And I'm caught in the middle of it. I put my prescription in, and I don't get it. When I ask Norman's if they've received it, they say the surgery hasn't sent it over. I'm told to ask at the surgery. The surgery say they've sent it over. Neither of them are interested in sorting it out long term - I spend well over an hour, every single week, begging them to give me my medication. Eventually they relent & give me some. Its inhumane.

Recently in July in an attempt to ensure that I am on the list for various NHS screenings I asked to be provided my details so that I can peruse that the information is up to date and accurate. This has never been provided. Furthermore recently I received a letter from the DVLA revoking my license "after a medical review" and it cites that I am diabetic with insulin. I have never been prescribed with insulin. I contacted my GP asking if they could provide a letter confirming whether or not if they believe I am medically fit to drive. Again no reply. In the last 20 year's the NHS have provided perhaps thousands for my 'care'. Had I been given that money perhaps I could go to a private Doctor so that the issues that I ask to be addressed could be seen to. They offer doctor appointments but since 2019 I have only been given nurse appointments who give the impression that I am wasting their time as the issues are out with their remit. Why are they not able to refer me to a GP is beyond me.

Dear Patient, thank you for getting in touch. We are sorry to read read about your recent experience. We usually respond to any Subject Access Requests within one month, if the request is more complex it may take longer. Any requests for GP letters may be subject to a charge as this is private work so please check with the Secretaries in case there is an outstanding fee to be paid before the letter can be provided. We would like to reassure you that all our clinicians have access to a GP, including the Nurses. If there any concerns they have requiring GP input they can make these arrangements for you. We would urge you to get in touch with the Practice to raise these concerns directly so we can look further into this and resolve them for you. Thank you

I am no longer with this practice. Over a couple of years I have received, as I recall, two prescriptions for a skin condition. Of which one was a repeat due the tub leaking. When I seen the nurse on the matter their response that I should use moisturiser. I replied I had done. Another nurse stated they could not do anything. When I phoned in I spoke to a receptionist who stated that they can not prescribe steroid cream again, the cream I was given was paraffin not a steroid. No response.

This is a terrible practice. It is not possible to see a GP. I think they are part-time and working from home. For a practice with around 10 GPs & the population of Maryport it is scandalous. You ring....long wait. Finally through to receptionist who decides whether you are to be granted an audience by telephone with a GP. You jump through several hoops as I think they would rather you see a nurse. The 'appointment' by telephone call involves waiting for your phone to ring for 4 hours, (anytime between 8 a.m. & noon). If you miss it, you have to go through the whole process again; there is no follow up. The website is very outdated, with a lack of care or thought for patients. Click on 'appointments' a sign comes up with 'all advance appointments suspended due to Covid pandemic.' This is March 2023. Self referral forms require you to purchase word or excel. I'm saddened that the inevable consequence of such poor service is that conditions perhaps easily treated initially will worsen, & that vulnerable & elderly people will really struggle to get the care they need.

Dear Patient, thank you for getting in touch. We are sorry to read about your recent experience. We understand that some patients may have difficulty getting appointments and this is why we have invested in expanding our clinical teams, particularly over the last twelve months. Our "on-the-day" team has doubled in this time to help us meet patient demand. All our Receptionists receive training on where the patient's needs would best be served and sometimes this means they may not get to speak to a GP but often this does mean their medical issue is dealt with sooner. We want to assure you that this signposting and navigating training is delivered by our GPs and Receptionists follow their guidance. We offer a mix of telephone and face-to-face appointments with a wide range of clinicians, including GPs, and in the evenings too, up to 8pm. We understand that some aspects of our website are outdated and that is why we have been working on delivering a new website which will be able to offer so much more for our patients and improve their experiences with the Surgery. We do have hardcopy self-referral forms available to complete at the Surgery, we put the digital copies on our website to accommodate patients who might not be able to readily or easily come to the Surgery in person for instance those who might work during most of our opening hours. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to further discuss any aspects of the issues raised. Thank you Maryport Health Services
