  1. Review titled Poor aftercare, need to chase up.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Phoned for blood results & was told by receptionist that all is o.k. with "no further action", when the problem is ongoing & needs follow-up appointment. No prebookable appointments so you have to keep phoning every morning for an appointment. Told hospital results are not on the system when they are so I've had to persist++. Some receptionists are lovely & helpful but there have been some (too many) who make the process a lot less bearable. The last thing you need when you or a loved one is poorly. If it's not urgent you're not going to be seen that day but you "can't" pre-book if you're happy to see someone in, say, the next 3 weeks like you used to be able to. You can arrange a telephone or online appt, only to be told by that doctor that a face to face appt is required. Waste of everyone's time! If you're seriously ill you need to call 111 which puts more burden on an already stretched, a&e. Had to call 111 when husband collapsed with pneumonia & collapsed lung (he was in his forties). This was 2 days after being told by GP that it was just flu! He'd been coughing up blood for 3 days & barely walked into the consulting room. Paramedics & hospital were amazing but ambulance could have been avoided if he'd received antibiotics from the gp days earlier. Practice nurse was absolutely brilliant for another appt! A credit to the practice! There is no follow up care after referral to hospital. You just get forgotten & have to keep chasing up just to start the whole thing again. The system needs to improve.

As you have not detailed any complaint to the practice with the names of the patients involved there is little we can do to look into this for you. Feel free to contact us if you would like to. Putting issues like this here adds little value or balance to the situation as we will never comment on personal experiences, regardless of outcomes, in the public arena.

  3. Review titled Doctor appointments and after care non existent.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Went through major surgery this year. Was told by the hospital that as part of my recovery my Doctor/Surgery would assist with everything needed to include checking the wound, nutrition, recovery, what to expect next etc. Is the last 8 weeks I have seen the nurse several time for the bandage, when I asked about seeing the doctor re nutrition, what to expect next the Doctor response has been ‘later’. The only thing I have managed get from the doctor is a referral back to the hospital for a further blood test. I’ve had to learn from the internet and decipher the good from the bad advice.

I'm sorry you feel that way but I am struggling a little with this review. Have you fed back to the practice directly? I don't think you have, I have no recollection of anything like this being discussed in our meetings recently. I also deal with complaints and have not seen one so you have not chosen to use our complaints process either. Given you are anonymous, that makes it difficult for me to respond comprehensively as I don't know anything about the situation beyond the few words you have posted. I am unclear how after-care is "non-existent" when you've seen the nurse several times. I don't understand what you mean by using the phrase "later" either, if one of our patients needs to speak to or be seen by a doctor, they are. I am also unsure why the hospital told you that we would be responsible for telling you those things when they are the surgical team responsible for precisely those things. As for nutrition, the only thing we can do is refer to dietetics. Unfortunately, as you've chosen to post anonymously, I can't check your records to see what has happened. Perhaps you would like to make contact directly so we can review this properly rather than me being forced into banal generalisations which won't help you at all. Dr Brown
