  2. Review titled Not good enough

After 37 years with this surgery, registering both my husband and child here as well, after today I will be going elsewhere as the whole booking system is a joke. Callback requested for my place in the queue - 1 minute after the phone line opened - called back 30 minutes later to be told no appointments unless it can't wait until the next day. My child is is in serious discomfort and distress and while it's not life threatening it's imperative he sees a doctor asap - but apparently that won't be at helsby street This happens everytime yet when you do eventually get an appointment there's never anybody waiting in the waiting rooms so who do these appointments go to? And how do they get them so quickly when you can only book same day? I appreciate the understaffing and underfunding of the NHS but why this surgery has never been efficient or particularly well managed in comparisons to numerous others locally I will never understand. I can only hope they take a long hard look at the way this surgery is run and start again with efficient queuing and booking systems that make a patient feel like they're in good hands

  5. Review titled Aftercare treatment.

Having had a knee replacement at Wrightington hospital last week, on leaving the hospital I was given a letter to ask the surgery to remove my stitches out on the 2nd May. On phoning this practice I was informed " we don't remove stitches sweetie, you'll have to go to the hub or bath street sweetie". I tried to get an appointment at both facility's only to be told they had no appointments for a month. Surely I should be able to see a nurse at my doctor's to get stitches removed. There are nurses there who can do various other things do why not removing stitches ? I now have to travel back to Wrightington to get the stitches removed. To say that the staff at Wrightington were shocked that there's nowhere in Warrington to get my stitches removed is an understatement. When your in pain as I am you would think you could get help for your medical center. I hope that you will look into getting this s sorted so no other patient from this practice has to go through the same upset as I have. Regards, Patricia Robinson.

Dear Patricia, We thank you for your feedback and apologise that you were unable to find a service within Warrington that were able to remove the stitches for you. Unfortunately, within General Practice in Warrington, removal of stitches is not commissioned therefore our staff are not provided with training in this particular skill. The service you required is commissioned and provided by Bridgewater Community NHS Trust and unfortunately, we are unable to comment on the availability of the appointments at the Treatment Room as this is not our service. As Wrightington Hospital is under the Wigan Borough, their services may be provided differently to Warrington and hence any confusion around processes following surgery. We hope your recovery is going well and if there is anything we can help with, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact me on 01925 972590. Bets Wishes & Kind Regards Maia Ensor (Practice Manager)

  6. Review titled Appointment issues

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Mrs Bird - Posted on 02 February 2023

I have been with Helsby St my whole life (45yrs) but since before the pandemic it is so hard to get an appointment. You can not book in advance, you have to phone at 8am. This was bad enough before the new phone system but in my opinion, it is now worse. As soon as you call the surgery, you're met with an automated message which goes on for a full minute telling you to call 999 in an emergency! Seriously?? Then you choose what you want (1. To make an appointment). You're then asked if you want a call back at your point in the queue, which is great, only my phone won't accept calls from the new number so I can't do that (I have tried everything). You're then told you're number 34, or whatever, in the queue (you don't have the option for a call back after you're told the position,by the way). So you wait and you wait and you wait. If you get through before you fall back to sleep, there are no appointments left and you're told to call back again tomorrow. At least with the old number it was just engaged, now you can be on hold for up to an hour and this isn't a free number. With the cost of living crisis, this isn't helping, is it? I have been unwell since before Xmas with a chest infection but have been unable to see or speak to a doctor. When you've been awake half the night coughing, you shouldn't have to set your alarm to phone the doctors, wait on hold for nearly an hour and then have to do it again the next day. I agree that same day calls are great for emergencies but surely you should be able to book for the next day or in a couple days if not urgent. Aside from that, we do have some great doctors and nurses at the surgery, just wish I could get to see one

  7. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Julie D - Posted on 23 January 2023

Helsby Street isn't my usual GP practice but they provided a procedure on behalf of my regular GP. I have to compliment the surgery on having such a lovely friendly team from the reception staff, Gps and nurses who were all genuinely cheerful, chatty and caring (and it was a Monday morning!). It isn't the most glamorous surgery but the staff definitely made up for it and therefore I feel they deserve the recognition - keep up the good work, I really appreciated it . Thank you.

I have been phoning for an appointment telephone or face to face and can never get through till after 9am by then all appointments have gone. I now have three issues to see GP one which i am in a lot of pain. I am fed up this has been a long term issue and supposedly doing something about this to improve this nothing has changed. I will end up going to A and E as cannot go on much longer with the pain.

  9. Review titled Poor Standards

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 August 2022

I would just like to say the problem of getting through in the morning at 8am has been a long standing problem before the covid came about and I and my husband has been told there is a new system coming into place in a couple of weeks. Its seems from the reviews here this new system change has been happening since April this year and we were told this beginning of this year. I prefer honesty which I have found is lacking in this practice at times and have been treated by GPs and reception staff as though I am stupid and have been fobbed off time and time again. It was apparent that Doctors are not straight talking or staff. I prefer honest people and people who care and respect their patients no matter who they are. Please do not bother to send a reply as it is just a formality which means nothing unless it is meant and is sincere and action is taken to change things. You tell every one to phone up first thing in the morning at 8am and you have thousands on your books. One Phone number and a few people answering the phone does cover the amount of patients wanting an appointment. When is the supposedly"New System" going to take place and will all patients be informed. I have had the conversation with staff before the covid that if a system is not working, is it not time to change the system. Also told by GP and staff if you dont like our service then you can leave and go elsewhere. Really ! Is this a caring response attitude from health professionals ? To me it is that you don't listen to your patients and dont care what they say as you can get patients on your books as there is a demand and also who are we as I was made to feel by on GP as though I was nothing and another showed no compassion but a cold callous face and words after I had been injured. It is run as a business and money comes first before patient and their self importance and status as a GP and command respect by the patient but they don't have respect for the patient and are rude and insulting as some think they have the right to judge you. Yes sadly is true and was very upsetting to experience and wont be using this practice. Is this a service? Patients are to be treated with care and compassion and respect. If you went private and were paying you would see the big difference how you are spoken to and treated and appointment would be arranged. We all can not afford private medical treatment. So where does that leave the patient.

  10. Review titled Like playing the lottery

Rated 1 star out of 5

by John - Posted on 01 August 2022

Getting an appointment is like playing the lottery, as soon as 8am hits, you start dialling to try and get an appointment. This morning I finally got through on the 140th attempt, to be told they were fully booked and to try again tomorrow. They keep texting me to remind me to book an appointment to discuss my blood test results, but when I ring they won't give me an appointment.
