  1. Review titled Waiting times

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 April 2024

After not seeing a doctor for over 12 years. Have tried to get an appointment only to be told the average minimum wait time now is 3 weeks before first appointment. A failing system not fit for purpose over paid and breach of patients charter. Refund my national insurance so I can go private please.

  2. Review titled Erosion of service

I have been a patient of the surgery for 20 years and have always had my blood tests taken by the practice nurse. Imagine my surprise when I rang to make my annual blood test appointment to be told albeit politely that they would prefer me to go to the hospital to the walk in phlebotomy clinic although I would firstly have to visit the surgery to collect a form. In these days of the move towards Net Zero it seems ironic that I am being asked to make a round trip of 14 miles as opposed to 3 and of course there will be car parking charges to pay! This is a very retrograde step indeed.

Dear Patient, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We genuinely appreciate your loyalty as a patient for the past 20 years. I understand your frustration with the recent change in our blood test procedure, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I want to provide some context for the changes. The hospital is currently assisting us with non-urgent blood tests, offering a convenient option for many patients. The flexibility of the hospital's walk-in phlebotomy clinic, often without the need for an appointment, aims to enhance accessibility. Additionally, they provide 30 minutes of free parking to further support patients during their visit. We acknowledge the pressure on general practice, which impacts our ability to maintain the same level of service as before. Our nursing team is dedicated to addressing urgent cases, and unfortunately, non-urgent blood tests may face challenges in scheduling. We want to assure you that your concerns are heard, and we are actively reviewing our processes to find a better balance between convenience and the quality of healthcare. If you have further questions or would like to discuss this matter in more detail, please feel free to contact us directly on bswicb.downton.surgery@nhs.net Thank you again for your understanding and patience as we work towards improving our services. Best regards, Downton Surgery

  3. Review titled Shocking service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I booked an appointment 2 weeks ahead of time. Only to be called the night before, to say that they need to cancel my appointment due to sickness. (Which is understandable) but the next available appoinment they could give me was in 22days time? No other appointment time was available for me, within those dates!! I rarely visit the Dr's but nothing could be done apparently, this is really unacceptable. When I got emotional on the phone the receptionist was very unhelpful. Just kept stating the point that she couldn't fit me in any earlier and that it was down to me to keep phoning each day to check for cancellations. Couldn't offer to call me if one came available. It takes at least 10mins to get through to someone. The whole point of seeing a dr is so we can see them soon as possible not 5 weeks later in my case.

  4. Review titled Brilliant practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Great practice. Always kind, responsive and seen appropriately. Ready to go the extra mile for a poorly child. I've never had a problem getting an urgent (or even not so urgent) appointment for myself or family. Phone answered swiftly and politely. Before, during and after pandemic I've quickly been seen face to face when needed. Phone/text appointment when appropriate. Thank you all so, so much.

  8. Review titled Bad Policies

Rated 3 stars out of 5

In my own experiences, and those of friends and family, there appears to be a deliberate attempt to stop you from seeing the doctor of your choice within a reasonable timeframe by making patients wait a consistent two weeks. In urgent cases of course I am happy to see the next doctor available. But let's pretend we are back in the good old days when a strong doctor/patient relationship was thought of as a good thing. Also, wouldn't it be nice if the receptionists noted your arrival with a smile rather than pointing to a screen and telling you to do it yourself.

  9. Review titled Very disappointed with pharmacy at this surgery

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Karen Barbieri - Posted on 10 June 2022

Only moved to Downton 3 weeks ago and registered with this surgery. I take medication everyday which needs to be in a medicine tray as I take a lot of tablets and find it difficult to manage. I gave them all my details 3 weeks ago and my medication records so my medication would be ready to collect today to find out 3 weeks was not long enough and NO medication was ready. To be honest they didn’t even have a clue about my medication needs and I was just told my tablet’s would be delivered from Fordingbridge on a Saturday. The problem I had at the pharmacy at the surgery I thought I would call the Fordingbridge pharmacy just to check they would be with me tomorrow as I only had enough for tonight then to be told they don’t even deliver on a Saturday ! Is this really how the surgery pharmacy work or was I very unlucky? I must point out that the receptionist was very helpful but the lady in the pharmacy was awful and I certainly hope I don’t need to go there again for any medication she also told me that she’s just the middle person. Definitely this was very upsetting for me which I hope nobody new to Downton experience.
