  1. Review titled Exceeded Our Expectations

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Being new to the area, we needed a dentist. After assessing other practices in and around Cambridge, we found that the practice in Ely to be very accessible and local. Initial over the phone contact was very easy, young lady I spoke to was very polite and friendly. I popped in to get our paperwork and our initial first appointment was scheduled for a week later. Treatment costs were explained to me but due to unforseen circumstances, I had to request an emergency appointment, which was booked within 48hrs. The dentist I saw was very good, did an X-ray and told me what my problem was, advised me to take antibiotics and gave me a prescription for the Meds. First class service by all staff. Although our first appointment was due in less than a week, my wife developed a tooth problem, so after ringing the practice, they have brought her appointment forward so she can attend and have her problem assessed with further treatment to be booked. I'm sure we will be receiving treatment here in the future, if and when needed but it's very reassuring to know that we can ring them up anytime and they will afford us an appointment. So far so good and with our first impression of the practice, everyone has "Exceeded Our Expectations". Potential treatment costs are payable upfront and all costs are explained. As much as we haven't, they do offer a Monthly Pay Plan for potential future treatment if needed, which is a great idea and very helpful for those who don't want unexpected treatment costs on the day of a consultation. All in all, we are happy with the practice.

  2. Review titled Only 1 NHS dentist remains

Rated 1 star out of 5

I was called unexpectedly and told that I needed to pay £43 over the telephone there and then for an appointment in six months' time or I would no longer be registered at the practice. This is as myDentist is now only providing private patients with dentistry. Quite how working people can be given this choice, 'pay up or good luck elsewhere' at 8.30am on a November Tuesday morning with no notice, no apology and no alternative solution, when the cost of living is increasing for so many is, to my mind, unethical. Whilst I personally could afford to pay privately, I have moved to another dentist on principle. myDentist is now almost entirely run as a private business. Its service to those that require dentistry most is now almost non-existent. I am told that, for now at least, there is just one NHS dentist remaining and that there is no prospect of this dentist taking new patients. I have recorded my concern about the surgery's practice of calling its patients, regardless of the length of time you have been with them or your ability to find and travel to NHS dentistry elsewhere with its practice manager. I would encourage others to the same on principle; I don't doubt it will make anyone stop to question the ethics of their conduct, which I at least, find dubious. It those that have the least that will be affected by this change in management.

As you may be aware, we do have several dentist vacancies at your practice and are actively trying to recruit. Unfortunately, recruitment of dentist’s post pandemic is proving extremely difficult. There is a shortage of dentists in the UK which is making attracting dentists to certain areas of the country more difficult and we are experiencing challenges in recruiting to the area. However, we are looking at all options to attract and re-locate dentists to your practice. Please be assured that the vacancies are not through any lack of trying or apathy on our part, purely that recruiting dentists, is proving difficult. However, whilst we are recruiting, if you experience a dental emergency, e.g. pain, swelling or bleeding then you can still contact the practice and they will triage your symptoms and advise you how obtain emergency assistance until the practice is fully staffed. Kind Regards {my}dentist Patient Support Team

  3. Review titled Terrible practice -Avoid

No notice given at all of NHS dentist no longer offering 17 year old daughter treatment. Extractions ordered by orthodontist which we booked 2 months in advance on the Monday and Thursday of the same week (4 teeth in total). Phone call from the practice on the Friday to change the Thursday appointment to the Tuesday due to dentist NHS licence expiring Tuesday! Was told we may be charged if we don’t move the appointment! This was the first we had heard of it! We declined the appointment change due to having concerns about extracting 4 teeth on two consecutive days and attended Monday and Thursday appointment as an NHS patient. Extractions left open and developed dry socket and infection. Saw private dentist at a different practice as an emergency on Saturday, as 111 didn’t answer, who prescribed antibiotics. Revisited Ely dentist the following Monday as an emergency NHS appointment for pain relief treatment and a follow up booked was for the Thursday to check the infection. When we arrived for the Thursday appointment the door was locked. Tried to knock and phone to find out why they were closed and after a few minutes the door was answered by the receptionist who had been left on her own all day and had to lock up due to needing the toilet. She said we had been marked as missing the appointment and they were now closed for an hour for lunch! Couldn’t offer any solution and was uninterested in the position we had been left in. This practice is obviously badly run, unorganised and as they’re now only accepting private patients, you’re free to chose so I’d avoid this practice and spend your money elsewhere.

Always so helpful and friendly staff. I have had extremely good service especially when I need to get dental treatment. The only thing is that I have recommended my family and they don't have any NHS slot's for them to get treatment for their teeth
