Many thanks to the practice for giving me an NHS emergency appointment at short notice and not over charging me like other practices. I was seen, given clear advice and antibiotics. Very grateful.

My mother who is a Ukrainian refugee attended the clinic today for an NHS check up appointment with two questions she had for the dentist. The dentist was 17 minutes late for the appointment. I made this appointment for her earlier and it was a check up appointment only. Valentyna is entitled to free NHS treatment and is on low income of the which the practice and the dentist providing treatment were fully aware. Dentist and Valentyna were discussing the treatment in Russian. During this discussion Valentyna was offered a cleaning service without the explanation that the treatment will cost £80. When she finished a bill for £400 was presented towards the future deep clean, which was also discussed for information but not agreed. Valentyna questioned the bill as she never agreed to a deep clean and the dentist apologies for a mistake, presenting her with the bill of £80 instead. The trouble is Valentyna was not made aware that the service that was offered to her was a private service and no one explained the costs before performing the service. My mother was shocked and dismayed, she is a vulnerable person of nearly 70 years of age and a refugee with high levels of stress. She paid the £80 whilst in a state of shock. I spoke to the practice about this on the same day and refused to reimburse.
