   I payed for an Emergancy appointment because I was in severe pain, the dentist only offered me extraction or a referral to a private clinic for root canal filling / crown that he said would be around £400. After having being sent away in pain I was able to get an out of hours NHS appointment and received root canal treatment. I essentially payed for the dentist to tell me what I already knew, not proved urgent treatment and then offer to send me elsewhere to pay out for private treatment. Poor experience and I will be avoiding this practice.
