  1. Review titled "Dentist's are sick too"

Rated 1 star out of 5

Struggling with toothache but my own local dentist of 15 years closed in recent months, I was recommended to 1a Dentist for an emergency appointment through HealthWatch. It was either here or Rowlands Gill, which is a fair journey away. Bearing this in mind, I called the 111 service for additional advice, but they were not helpful at all, 'don't chew on that side, don't have things hot/cold, continue taking pain relief' and simply wished me 'good luck phoning around' - disappointing. Nevertheless, I arranged an emergency appointment on 16/2/24 giving all of my details over the phone for their next available one which was 9am on 27/2/24. So, on prompt arrival, when the receptionist asked my appointment time and details, she whispered to her colleague and then I was to be told that this dentist hadn't turned in today and that they could only offer me another one at 2pm or later on in the week. I am very upset by this, as I had traveled from the North of the Tyne, paid tunnel costs and parking without even a courtesy call to inform me that there was no dentist available. The receptionist's response was that my number wasn't on their system and that, 'dentists are sick too' which I totally understand, but why had my contact details been missed during the initial contact? I have had to re-arrange working commitments to return at 2pm, but I'm mostly begrudged by paying twice for the Tyne Tunnel, double the amount I should have had to, plus the parking nearby as there was no visible free parking without local knowledge of the area, all in all this has additional costs of just over £10 before seeing a dentist plus their surgical costs. I hope my appointment does go smoothly this afternoon...

  2. Review titled Great service

I had a wisdom tooth removed under sedation as I was anxious about the prospect. Although there was a long wait, I was very pleased with the overall care and service provided. The dentist did his best to reassure me and explained the risks. I recommend this practice.
