  1. Review titled Disappointed and feel cheated

Rated 2 stars out of 5

New dentist, as my previous dentist had left, I was booked in for my general checkup, which in the past, I'd always been given a scale and polish, which I didn't get, but instead they spent most of my appointment (which was running 20 minutes late), looking on the computer for an Hygienist appointment, which after a while they said that they will see me again, they told me to go to the receptionist to get another appointment booked, which they did, but still got charged £25+ and felt disappointed and cheated, as I felt that all they wanted was me in and out, being charged and now got to return, for what, I'm not too sure about!

My whole experience was excellent. The diagnosis for a root filling was the best possible treament. The procedure was handled with great care and consideration.

  3. Review titled So disappointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been attending this practice for almost 56 years but today was the worst ever experience. I saw a dentist who was hard selling treatments and totally contradicting the advice provided at an earlier consultation. If I hadn’t pressed for a scale and polish he wouldn’t have done one; this was always done as part of my check ups with the previous owners. The dentist still insisted I see the dental hygienist. The receptionist told me the hygienist would do a scale and polish which I’d just had - but for a further £44! What is going on with this practice? So disappointed.

  4. Review titled Very poor service in the last year after 30 happy years.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Dillon - Posted on 19 April 2023

Once again this dentist was running late. I have seen him three times now and each time I have had to wait. Today, I waited for 30 minutes beyond my appointment time. He completed my treatment which took about five minutes and then informed me that he would not do this in future, because it was a waste of his time! This after my wasting considerable time on three occasions waiting for treatment! He seemed more willing to promote more expensive treatment. I stated that I did not want such treatment but that I wanted my tooth replacing whenever needed. This he refused to do and suggested I look for other dentists. I paid the helpful receptionist and cancelled my membership of this practice. I have been a patient here for 30 years and always received excellent treatment, until that dentist retired.

  6. Review titled Worried

Rated 1 star out of 5

I recently had a check up at Clarence road Dental, where i have previously been more than happy with a variety of treatments over many years. I was shocked on my recent visit (after waiting over 30 minutes) that a new dentist proceeded to carry out the examination without even using a dental probe, but blew air on my teeth - that was it - that was how he examined each tooth for new cavities or failing fillings. No examination of gum condition (not a pocket prob in sight) which is an integral part of a dental check up as stated on the NHS website under 'What will happen at your check-up'. What is going on Clarence road Dental? On reading other reviews, it appears several patients are less than happy with their treatment from a 'new dentist'. Patients will begin to loose confidence, and start asking to see one of the other dentists.

Dear Anonymous Thank for your feedback. We would appreciate if you could give your name so that we can look into our records. Our new dentists are highly qualified and use high magnification loupes to provide a thorough examination and treatments. It is very highly unlikely that they would not use the standard tools for dental examination and as stated above we cannot look into your records as comment has been made anonymously. We have invested heavily in the latest dental equipment like dental scanners, digital xrays, electric handpieces , new dental chairs ,ipads for paperless documentations, etc which usually seen in high end private practices to provide highest standards of care. If you are worried and feel we cannot meet your expectations , we are very sorry and see another dentist. If you have any further queries please email admin.practice@clarenceroaddentalcare.co.uk Thank you Kind regards Practice Principal

  7. Review titled Not organised

My child has 5 teeth that are painful and the dentist told us they need filling ASAP she put temporary filling in 2 teeth and booked us in for the nearest appointment for all 5 teeth to be filled we was told we had to wait for a phone call to get our appointment 3 weeks later no phone call I call and tell them my 8 year old is in pain and we need this appointment so we get booked in a month later on that day they cancel the appointment and made 3 more different appointments they cancelled all three. We finally get the 4th appointment for 10.30am as I don't drive we get to our appointment at 10.25 and we're told the appointment had to be cancelled again! I'm now 4 months in with a 8yr old in pain and £20 travel money down. I finally got another appointment today at 2.30pm were there at 2.20 and told there hasn't been an appointment booked in and the lady was trying to say I've pulled this appointment out of thin air, as I stood my ground she told me it was cancelled and booked for next week now yet again £20 travel money down a child taken out of school early for the appointment. If you have to cancel appointments shouldn't you contact the person before the appointment and not when you turn up at the dentist, no Consideration at all.

  8. Review titled Previously positive experience, not any more.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have been a patient of this dental practice for 25 years+, and have been seeing the same dentist for most of that time. He was always punctual, explained things thoroughly and made me feel at ease. I had no issues or fears of visiting the dentist. On each check up, he wound perform simple hygiene treatments, and was thorough in checking my oral health (gum health, tongue etc.). He is now retiring, and I saw a different dentist on my last check up visit in December 2022. This dentist was running over 30 minutes late, and felt very cold when I spoke to him, not like the jolly, friendly dentist I was used to. This new dentist simply looked at my teeth (not in the thorough manner I was used to, with no hygiene treatments), then vaguely explained some further treatment I required. He then told me to make an appointment to come back and see another member of staff. I was in the check up for less than 5 minutes. I booked the required appointment (in several weeks) and left, unsure what to expect on my next visit, it hadn’t really been explained to me. Again, at the second visit, the therapist was running over 20 minutes late. The treatments I received from her were routine things my previous dentist would have done during the check up (albeit it was a little more painful and rough than I was used to) . I have since learned from other patients of the surgery this having two visits is now a regular experience. This left me questioning both why the first dentist had not done what my previous dentist did during a check up for efficiency, and also, how he was running so late if he was only doing half of what my previous (punctual) dentist did during appointments. I would also like to add, during my second visit, several members of staff entered the room during my treatment, without knocking on the door, including the dentist from my first visit who was rather rude and demanding to one of the nurses. I have to say I am very disappointed by my recent experiences, from a surgery I used to be happy to attend and spoke about highly to friends and family. If my next experience matches this one, I will not be returning.

Dear Anonymous Thank for your feedback. We would appreciate if you could give your name so that we can look into our records. Our new dentists are highly qualified and use high magnification to provide a thorough examination and treatments. We have invested in the latest dental equipment usually seen in high end private practices to provide highest standards of care. It is always good practice to provide planned dental treatment after a thorough examination to book appropriate time for treatment so that its done properly as any rush job , quick fix is always a compromise which will lead to failure and more problems in future. One cannot expect to go to hospital and have treatment done straight away unless its life threatening. The same applies with dentistry As you must be well aware the crisis of NHS through out the country with NHS strikes and NHS dental practices not registering new patients, dental practised closing down etc . We are among the very few well established practised in the country who are still taking on new patients on the NHS and take same day emergency appointments directed from 111 as we feel everyone deserves NHS service. Majority of our new patients are from NHS practices which have closed down and gone private and both our new and existing patients are very grateful for this. NHS dental practises are struggling to hire any NHS dentists since the pandemic and majority use dental therapists for routine general treatments like fillings, scale and polish etc . Our dentists and reception inform the patients who will be carrying out the treatment before patients book their appointment and all our patients are very happy with this. Our current dentists are working non stop without any lunch breaks due to the high demand and want to help patients in the best possible way. Whilst we want to see our patients on time, dentistry is unexpected and some patients may need more time and emergency patients are booked in between patients . When dentists are running late our patients are informed by reception how long they may have to wait and most patients are happy to wait and sone reschedule their appointment. If you feel we cannot meet your expectations , we are sorry and hope that you find an NHS practice that will care to your needs. All the best. 9. Review titled All about sales

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been using the same practice for years but I’ve been given a different dentist. He hadn’t even turned up for work when I arrived - so delays were inevitable. After having a dentist who seemed interested in my teeth, the new dentist only seemed bothered about selling me extra treatments. My teeth have always felt better after a visit - this time was just a waste of money.

Dear Anonymous Thanks for your feedback We would appreciate if you could give your name so that we can look into your dental records. Our highly experienced dentists carry out a comprehensive examination using dental loupes magnification so that a thorough oral examination of teeth , gums and restorations can be carried out to the highest standards . We only advice treatment that is necessary and a treatment plan with all options is always discussed and provided to the patient to achieve optimal dental care irrespective whether it is available on the NHS or privately. All our patients have full control and responsibility for their dental and medical health. If any of our patients have any severe dental pain, swelling, etc, we make it a priority and try to see them same day during our emergency slots. Our patients are very happy with this approach and this is evidenced by the high recommendations our practice gets and the amount of new patients registering every week. I have been with this dentist quite some time and have always been happy. I saw a different dentist this time and he said my teeth were great and only needed a yearly check up. He then booked me in for a white filling and another filling with a bill of over £200 when I had no problems? I felt that it was just money making and I didn't really need the treatment. I canacelled it as I thought it unnecessary treatment. Didn't even get scale and polish. Very disappointing.
