My mum went to live at Elderthorpe in April 2021 and she was safe and well cared for. The staff at Elderthorpe are amazing, they are not just carers they are angels in disguise. In August 2023 my mum was put on end of life care and this is when I really got to know how good the staff were, I spent many an hour in my mums room sitting with her. The staff checked on her and me on a regular basis, they turned her to prevent pressure sores, they made sure she was always comfortable and all this was done in a dignified way. They always knocked before entering the room, told her what they were going to do and continued to speak to her all the time even though she could no longer answer. When she was put onto drugs to relieve her pain the staff were able to assure me that she was not in pain. At times when it looked like mum was at the end I was not left to deal with this alone a staff took turns to sit with me and provided comfort at a very difficult time to both myself and my daughter. When mum passed I was not there but my daughter was and she was supported by Elderthorpe's amazing manager who has continued to keep in touch since with messages. All the staff were amazing, the cook kept me fed when I was there for hours always offering me drinks. I was upset one day and the cleaner came in to the room went out and came back to offer a hug, in fact all the care staff were there for us they really did become better than family to us in those last four weeks. They all had genuine love for my mum I could feel it when they were caring for her. I can't thank the staff and management enough for the support they gave us and the care they gave mum and I would highly recommend Elderthorpe Residential home to any one who is looking to place their loved one in care it was the hardest decision I had to make to put her in a home, but it turned out to be the best decision.
