About Dulcoease and how it works

This medicine helps relieve constipation and is used in the treatment and prevention of constipation that is persistent and has lasted for a long time.

This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called laxatives. The active ingredient, docusate, works in two ways to relieve constipation. It works by making bowel muscles contract more often and with more force. This increased muscle action moves bowel contents to the rectum to be emptied and relieves constipation. It also has a softening action and enables water to penetrate dry and hard stools which softens them and makes them easier to pass with minimal straining. This softening action is very useful if you have haemorrhoids (piles) or anal fissures (tears in the lining of the back passage).

This medicine is available in the form of capsules that are taken by mouth.

Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse during treatment with this medicine.
