About Diethylamine salicylate and how it works

This medicine is used to treat joint pains, stiffness after exercise, muscular aches, sprains, and strains. The main ingredient diethylamine salicylate has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect that can help treat these types of conditions. It also has a counter irritant effect and when applied onto the skin causes redness and a warming effect which helps reduce the pain sensation.

It is available as a cream that is rubbed into the skin.

You should try this medicine on a small area of skin first to make sure that you do not have a bad reaction to it.

This cream should be applied sparingly. If you have sensitive skin or if you apply this medicine in hot weather or after a hot bath you may experience some discomfort.

Speak to your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse during treatment with this medicine.

Before using Diethylamine salicylate

This medicine may not be suitable for everyone and some people must never have it. Check the leaflet that comes with your medicine to make sure that the medicine is suitable before having it.

Medicines interactions

If you are taking more than one medicine they may interact with each other. Before using this medicine consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, taking or have recently taken any other medicines including vitamins, supplements and herbal or complementary preparations.

The following medicines may interact with this medicine:

  • coumarin anticoagulants such as warfarin
  • methotrexate

Possible side effects of Diethylamine salicylate

Most medicines can cause some side-effects but not everyone having the same medicine will get the same side-effects.

The following side-effects have been associated with people having this medicine:

  • skin irritation, dermatitis, rashes, redness, burning, or discomfort - stop using this medicine if excessive irritation or unwanted effects occur. Some of these skin reactions may not be apparent immediately

If you experience other side effects or have any other worrying symptoms while you are having this medicine, seek medical advice.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are trying to become pregnant or are pregnant you should seek medical advice before using this medicine. This medicine is not recommended for women who are breast-feeding.
