What does the treatment involve? 

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recommends a combination therapy of pegylated interferon and ribavirin for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.

Are the treatments suitable for everyone?

Treatment is suitable for people over 18 who have mild or moderate to severe chronic hepatitis C. Treatment may be contraindicated for patients with pre-existing medical conditions (particularly heart, blood, kidney or liver or severe psychological conditions) and pregnant women.

How long should the treatment continue for?

The length of the treatment depends on the genotype of the virus and is usually 6 or 12 months.
