ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM

The aorta is
the largest artery in the body.

It supplies blood to all the body
and to the legs. It starts in the heart.

Where it comes out of the heart,
it passes through the chest

and into the abdomen,
where it's the abdominal aorta.

We're interested in the abdominal aorta,
which is this part here.

You'll see on this CT scan
you'll recognise the kidneys,

the pelvis and the spine.

This structure here is
a picture of the abdominal aorta.

It should be thin and smooth

and you'll see here
it's stretched and rather curly.

That's what an abdominal aortic aneurysm
looks like on a scan.
