Blood gases test

Introduction

A blood gas test can help to determine whether you have an imbalance of oxygen or carbon dioxide in your blood, or an acid-base imbalance, where your blood is too acidic, or too alkaline. The test results may indicate that you have a respiratory (breathing) problem, or a metabolic, or kidney, disorder. The term metabolism describes the chemical reactions that the body uses to break down food into energy.
