Ideas for fun kids' activities
Healthy kids get up and about, they don’t veg out. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to get moving. Even the normal things you do during the day can become more active.
Here are some simple ideas that you can fit into your every day routine. Go on - give them a go today!
Introduce ‘2 hours max’ of TV time
Some parents do this already where they limit the kids’ TV time to 2 hours a day. If the kids don’t like it, then mum can always blame ‘Max’!
Feet first
Sitting in the car or on the bus uses little energy. If it’s a short hop try walking or cycling with the kids instead. It’s more fun and you’ll save money too.
Dance to the TV ads!
Lots of TV ads play music jingles and songs, which are perfect for dancing around too. A quick 30 second burst of activity is great for being up and about.
After school
Parents tend to over-estimate how much energy kids use at school. Remember, they’re actually sitting down most of the time. The best way for them to relax after school is for them to be up and active rather than to veg out.
Get up after eating
Don’t let them flop after meals. Just being up and about burns off excess calories so get up and about instead.

Family time
Families that play together have more fun, so find time to do things together after school and make either Saturday or Sunday an active day.

"It has made us more aware of getting our 5 a day into our daily meals, It has also made us more aware that we need to move more in order to keep our bodies healthy and fit. It has also encouraged myself to give up smoking."
