Be Food Smart
Change4Life's new-year healthy eating campaign, Be Food Smart, empowers people to make positive changes to their eating habits by giving them healthier, tasty, cheap and quick meal ideas with masses of choice and flexibility.
The campaign features on TV, radio, digitally, and through a range of commercial partnerships with leading retailers and manufacturers - plus our grass roots local supporters, local authorities and the NHS across the country.
The insight behind this campaign is the need to make people aware of the "hidden nasties" of salt, fat, and sugar in their food. The campaign gives handy hints and tips on these behaviours and provide easy meal ideas for breakfast, lunch and evenings - all lower in salt, fat and sugar. Change4Life shows how, by making simple healthier choices, you can make tasty meals comprising the recommended daily calories and appropriate nutritional value.
There are other free resources (posters, event kits, stickers, etc) to help you engage your audience. We've put together a list of popular items (including the Taster Recipes leaflet) below. To order, please contact the Department of Health Orderline on 0300 123 1002 or place your order on the Orderline website.

"Don't let drink sneak up on you"
We've relaunched our alcohol campaign, Sneaky Drinks, which shows how drinking too much alcohol can easily sneak up on you.
By communicating the health harms of regularly drinking above the guidelines and providing hints, tips and tools we aim to encourage people to give their liver a rest by reducing the amount of alcohol they drink.
"Sneaky drinks" campaign resources:
- A new version of the online drinks checker. In addition to the existing unit-checking functionality, this version now includes calorie and cost information. As with the previous version, it provides tips and advice on cutting back, based on your results. A version of the drinks checker is available for syndication on your own website - just email change4life@dh.gsi.gov.uk for more information.
- Smartphone app for both Apple and Android devices, allowing users to track their drinking daily, weekly and fortnightly, learn about this risks, get tips and feedback and share on social media.
- "Don't let drink sneak up on you" leaflet aimed at the consumer with information about units, the lower-risk guidelines, health harms, tips for cutting back, and ideas for displacement activities.
- "Don't let drink sneak up on you" poster with information about how to order the accompanying leaflet (above).
- "Your drinking and you" leaflet, for use primarily by NHS organisations working with people who need to cut back on their drinking.
- Revised website content aimed at the consumer, which explores some different approaches to cutting back, including more about the benefits and potential rewards.
- TV advert showing the Change4Life couple making some healthy lifestyle changes when they realise that they are unintentionally drinking over the guidelines. The ad is not airing on TV this time round but is still available to view on the website and for syndication on your site if you wish.
*CMO lower-risk guidance is that men should not regularly drink more than 3-4 units of alcohol a day and women should not regularly drink more than 2-3 units a day.
