"Don't let drink sneak up on you"

On 5 February we launched a Change4Life campaign showing how drinking too much alcohol can easily sneak up on you.

By communicating the health harms of regularly drinking above the guidelines and providing hints, tips and tools we aim to encourage people to give their liver a rest by reducing the amount of alcohol they drink.

"Sneaky drinks" campaign resources:

  • TV advert showing the Change4Life couple making some healthy lifestyle changes when they realise that they are unintentionally drinking over the guidelines.
  • Online drinks checker which allows you check how much you drink, and provides tips and advice on cutting back, based on your results. A version of the drinks checker is available for syndication on your own website - just email change4life@dh.gsi.gov.uk for more information.
  • "Don't let drink sneak up on you" leaflet aimed at the consumer with information about units, the lower-risk guidelines, health harms, tips for cutting back, and ideas for displacement activities.
  • "Don't let drink sneak up on you" poster with information about how to order the accompanying leaflet (above).
  • "Your drinking and you" leaflet, for use primarily by NHS organisations working with people who need to cut back on their drinking.
  • New website alcohol content aimed at the consumer, which moves away from previous calorie-focused messages and towards on the themes set out above instead.

*CMO lower-risk guidance is that men should not regularly drink more than 3-4 units of alcohol a day and women should not regularly drink more than 2-3 units a day.

We aim to keep local supporters informed and included in national Change4Life campaign activity so that they can coordinate their own events and activities, as well as learning from a shared experience.
