Apply for family and carer access in the NHS App

Family and carer access (also known as proxy access) is a secure way to use health services for someone else. For example, to:

  • book appointments
  • order prescriptions
  • speak to surgery staff
  • get information like test results from medical records

How to get family and carer access

Some GP surgeries are trialling a new feature in the NHS App which allows you to send an online application for family and carer access to them.

If your GP surgery is taking part in this trial, you will see these options when you select Family and carer access in the NHS App:

  • Apply to access services for someone else
  • Give someone you trust access to your services

You can create an NHS App account if you do not already have one.

When you create an account, you'll need to prove your identity before you can apply to manage services for others. This helps keep information secure.
