Sandy went to bed after drinking three glasses of red wine. She woke up at 6am and felt odd. She decided not to go to work, but as she tried to get out of bed she fell on the floor. She tried to attract her husband’s attention but her voice was very weak and she could not form the words. Luckily, he heard her and came into the bedroom, and she remembers saying, 'Have I had a stroke?'
He called 999 and Sandy was taken to hospital. Later that day she had a scan which showed that she had a clot. Sandy then spent three weeks on the ward.
The stroke affected Sandy’s left side, resulting in the paralysis of her arm and leg. She can now walk and move her arm again, but her fingers are still affected. Sandy also suffered from lack of confidence and emotional ability but she has overcome these to an extent.
