GP practice profiles

NHS Choices is the online 'front door' to the NHS. Over half a million people who visit the site every month search for GP practice information. This is a unique opportunity for every GP practice in England that provides NHS services to manage its own profile page on NHS Choices. Many practices who already manage their profiles regularly receive up to 500 visits a month.

Having a profile allows GP practices to edit and upload their own content, including images and videos. It also provides a perfect opportunity to showcase specialist services, and how to access them.

What information can be displayed?

  • General practice information such as address, contact details, prescription and appointment information, opening hours
  • Information about patient vacancies and how to register with your practice
  • Information about facilities and services provided including out-of hours services and specialist services
  • Links to external websites, including your practice website
  • Images and videos of staff and facilities

How do I register for and manage profiles?

Over 60 per cent of GP practices already have a profile and update their information on NHS Choices. If your practice does not manage its own profile, please contact the NHS Choices service desk to obtain your editing rights.

For information on how to manage profiles download the Practice Based Editing User Guide (PDF).

To confirm or to add new editors/administrators for your GP practice, contact the NHS Choices service desk.

Patient feedback

In addition to the profile upgrade, NHS Choices has introduced patient feedback on GP practices. This allows the public to post feedback about their experience with individual providers. Comments will appear on the respective profile.
