Try the new NHS LifeCheck assessment tool

The new NHS LifeCheck is here.

We have launched a new version of NHS LifeCheck. The new tool went live early in 2011 and replaces the former BabyLifeCheck, TeenLifeCheck and MidLifeCheck tools.

What has changed?

The most significant change is that LifeCheck now covers all age groups within a single tool. At the start of the assessment, users enter the year they were born, and the tool generates questions and advice based on the answers provided about the users' health and lifestyle.

Research showed that some users found the previous tools time consuming. With lengthy and careful consideration, we have removed a number of questions from the previous tools to make the new LifeCheck tool clearer and more concise. This gives users more time to spend on researching tips and guidance about their health, encouraging long-term behaviour change.

Additionally, the new technical functionality behind the relaunched LifeCheck tool also has benefits for stakeholders, who wish to enhance their own digital health services. Soon, the LifeCheck tool will be available to embed in an organisation’s website or intranet, so users can access the tool without having to leave the site. There will also be opportunities to co-brand the tool with the organisation's branding.

What has not changed?

While the new tool looks different to the former BabyLifeCheck, TeenLifeCheck and MidLifeCheck tools, the original NHS LifeCheck messages and objectives remain the same.

NHS LifeCheck is still an accessible, online health assessment tool, helping people to assess and manage their health and lifestyle.

LifeChecker news

You may have noticed a few changes to NHS LifeCheckers. The professional stakeholder site for NHS LifeCheck now sits within NHS Choices for professionals. The NHS LifeCheck tools were moved on to the NHS Choices platform in 2009 and it was a natural step for LifeCheckers to follow.

The LifeCheckers site has been updated to reflect the latest changes to the NHS LifeCheck tool. However, you can still find most of the information from the former LifeCheckers site within the new hub. This includes links to marketing materials, case studies, press releases and more.

LifeCheckers continues to be a source of support for professionals using NHS LifeCheck with patients and clients in their local community. If you have any queries about the new LifeCheckers site, contact the LifeCheck team at lifecheck@dh.gsi.gov.uk.

Other News

As many of you know, NHS LifeCheck has been closely linked with NHS Choices for a long time. 2010 in particular has seen the two complementary projects moving towards one integrated service.

The final stage of this journey took place on 1 April 2010 when, following the national launch of all three NHS LifeCheck services, the operational responsibility and management for NHS LifeCheck moved to NHS Choices.

This is a logical move which reflects the natural transition of LifeCheck’s online services, which are already hosted on the NHS Choices platform. The integration enhances the online offering of the NHS and strengthens NHS Choices' support for people in disadvantaged communities by providing access to high-quality health information. Similarly, it secures the long-term future of NHS LifeCheck and brings a number of other important benefits to the project, including:

  • cost efficiencies, by integrating the development, management and marketing of the services
  • maximising usage of the LifeCheck tools, by taking advantage of the high numbers of existing NHS Choices visitors

The NHS LifeCheck team has also moved over to join NHS Choices and remains the key point of contact during the initial integration process.
