Relaunch of NHS LifeCheck (2011)

Try the new NHS LifeCheck assessment tool

NHS LifeCheck used to provide three independent tools: BabyLifeCheck, TeenLifeCheck and MidLifeCheck. The tools offered tips and guidance based on answers the user provided. However, research has shown that the advice offered didn’t necessarily lead to a change in the user's behaviour.

NHS LifeCheck has been redeveloped as a single tool. As with the original tools, the new version of NHS LifeCheck is aimed at all sections of the population, including socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. Results pages have been improved with greater emphasis on practical tips and advice to encourage long-term lifestyle changes. The tool is also better linked to information on NHS Choices and Change4Life.

Note:
The existing LifeCheck URLs (www.babylifecheck.co.uk, www.teenlifecheck.co.uk and www.midlifecheck.co.uk) will remain active but are redirected to the new tool.

What other significant changes have been made to NHS LifeCheck?

  • The new tool will cover all age groups.
  • There will be fewer questions, making the tool faster to complete.
  • The tool will have greater technical flexibility, meaning it can be co-branded if necessary, and questions can be added or removed in line with planned campaigns (such as Department of Health policy and campaigns).
  • The tool will be available for syndication, which means it can be integrated on other websites and intranets.

Can I still use my existing marketing materials?

Yes. The LifeCheck branding - including style, logo and images - is unlikely to change. However, we will only promote one URL in the future (www.nhs.uk/lifecheck), which will take users to the new tool.

The existing LifeCheck URLs (www.babylifecheck.co.uk, www.teenlifecheck.co.uk and www.midlifecheck.co.uk) will remain live, but will take people to the new tool. The old URLs won’t be actively promoted, other than through marketing materials already in circulation or coming to the end of their stock levels.

This means you can continue to use and order current marketing materials, if they're in stock. However, once stocks are gone, we will not produce any new materials promoting the old tools or URLs.

Will you create any new marketing materials?

We will promote the NHS LifeCheck URL: www.nhs.uk/lifecheck. However, we have no plans to produce any marketing materials or to conduct a national advertising campaign at this stage.

Will the new NHS LifeCheck be available in other languages?

As with the original LifeCheck tools, there are no plans to translate NHS LifeCheck into other languages. It is believed that using NHS LifeCheck in combination with other resources, such as a health trainer, may be more effective. Anyone who wishes to target a particular language group in their area can invest in facilitators who can help with translating the services directly to users, but they should ensure confidentiality is maintained. A feedback from and an accessibility audit have been incorporated into the development.

Has the new LifeCheck been tested with the target audience?

The new NHS LifeCheck is based on research from previous testing and use of the existing tool. The research has led to the changes in the NHS LifeCheck tool.
