Hip-hop dancing for kids
Dancing is a really good way to keep fit.
It builds up your stamina and gives you a confidence boost as well.
I just enjoy dancing in general.
It's just really fun, active, keeps you engaged. It's cool.
I'm going to teach you some hip hop dance moves.
This can be incorporated into dance that you learn at home.
You can put it into any piece you want.
So our first move is the simple move.
You want to put your heel down
and your toe down
and bend your knees.
So that's heel, toe, bend.
The next step is like this.
Heel, toe, bend and you want to lean back
and come up, forward, and put your leg straight.
Our second move is in the style of locking.
So first you want to roll your head,
down to the right and down to the front.
Down to the right, down to the front.
That's a simple move. You don't have to do anything with your body.
Your next move is a clap.
So you want to put your left arm forward and come down with your right arm.
So left arm forward, down with the right arm.
So we'll start back from the head.
So five, six, seven, eight.
Head to the right, head to the front. Put them both together.
One, two, three, four.
OK, the next move is just to hop with your right leg up.
So just hop.
And you want to bring your arm from the centre of your chest across and out.
You don't want to raise it above the shoulder or too low down.
So...
So that needs to be quick and then come down again.
Five, six, seven, eight.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
This is our third move and it's called the ski.
So you want to kick with your left leg,
then you want to point your toes inwards
and then slide them outwards.
So kick, in, out, raise.
Kick, in, out, raise.
So it's like skiing, thus the name.
And it's just the same with both legs.
So when you do that, one move to your right or your left,
you're going to lean.
So you're going to kick, in, out and you're going to lean when you go out.
Kick, in, out, raise. Kick, in, out, raise.
First you want to jump forward on your right leg
and swipe your arms forward like this.
So forward.
Forward.
It doesn't matter which arm goes over the top,
you just want to swipe forward and make sure one arm is on top of the other.
But not like that.
And jumping forward on your right leg, lifting your left leg up.
Seven, eight.
And the next part is you're going to go forward,
then you want to jump and you're going to swap your legs.
Hands behind your back.
And that's on the heel of your left leg.
Then you're going to switch again.
It's the same move but with the other leg.
So, slowly, you want to swipe forward,
switch your legs, switch your legs.
Then you're going to move back with your hips,
forward and down.
So forward, switch, switch,
back, forward and down.
So you're going to do quite a few rocks before you get down.
So we're going to start with the first move,
switch, forward, back, forward, back.
The reason why I like it so much
is because of the people that I get to meet
and what it feels like to be on stage
dancing in front of lots of people,
being watched by all your friends and all your family.
You get on the stage and everyone's looking at you and it's "Agh!"
But then you get into it.
Everyone was out there in the front, looking at you, cheering for you.
It was just raw energy.
