Our Services

Needle and syringe exchange services

A non-judgemental and confidential service that gives drug users access to sterile needles, syringes and other associated items. Sharps containers for the safe disposal of used equipment may also be available at the pharmacy. This can help reduce the risk of the transmission of blood-borne infections that can be caught by sharing needles and syringes. The pharmacy can provide support and advice on issues relating to drug use, including referral to other health and social care professionals or specialist drug and alcohol treatment services where appropriate.

Pharmacy chlamydia screening and treatment service

This is a non-judgemental, confidential service for those who are sexually active and under the age of 25. Chlamydia testing kits may be provided on request or proactively, for example when you purchase condoms or go to get your prescription for oral contraceptive pills dispensed. This service is sometimes provided alongside the Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) service. The pharmacy will be able to give you advice on how to use the chlamydia testing kit, how to return it for testing and what will happen when your test results come back. Some pharmacies may also be able to provide you with treatment if the results of the test are positive.

Pharmacy NHS service: emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) service

You can get emergency contraception free of charge, but note that the pharmacist will have a confidential discussion with you first to make sure this is the correct course of action to take. In the discussion, the pharmacist will assess the suitability of emergency contraception for you and can advise you on the risks of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as well as providing information about what to do in the long term, such as considering options for ongoing contraception. The pharmacist may also provide you with additional advice on safe sex and other matters related to sexual behaviour. There may be specific criteria in place (set by the local NHS) that need to be met before this service can be provided to a patient.

Pharmacy NHS service: medicine use review (MUR) service

A medicine check-up service, which is useful if you regularly take several prescription medicines or are on medicines for a long-term illness. This confidential medicines check-up will help you to find out more about your medicine, identify any problems you may be having with taking your medicines as intended and help you to take your medicine/s to best effect.

Pharmacy non-NHS service: home delivery service

We operate a free Collection and Delivery service for your prescriptions.

You can order your prescription from the surgery yourself, inform the pharmacy of when it will be ready so that it can be collected on your behalf. The prescription will then be dispensed for you to collect from the pharmacy yourself or can be delivered to your home. Alternatively, the pharmacy can retain the repeat side of your prescription. You will be contacted by the pharmacy during the month to confirm the items you require that month, these will be ordered and collected from the surgery on your behalf, and the medication delivered out to your home.

Both methods will require you to sign a consent form.

Stop smoking services

This one-to-one service is designed to provide support and advice to people who want to give up smoking. You will have access to a stop smoking adviser who can assist you in creating your own personalised stop smoking plan. The pharmacy may supply appropriate stop smoking medicines and aids as required and may also refer you to other specialist services if your adviser thinks it is necessary. If the pharmacy does not offer a one-to-one NHS stop smoking service, they should be able to refer you to one.
