KGH is committed to providing high quality responsive services to meet the needs of anyone who is suffering from a cardiac condition. Our services include:

Cardiac Centre

Opened in 2007, our £4.7million Cardiac Centre allows patients to benefit from improved management of their disease within a local setting, thanks to an improved consistant care service in the unit. We have a catherisation laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art imaging and monitoring equipment. We carry out:

  • Coronary angiography
  • Coronary angioplasty (stent)
  • Pacemaker implants
  • Cardio versions
  • Transoesophagal echo
  • Internal cardiac defibrillator implants

More recently the centre has been accredited with a 24/7 service for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) for acute heart attack patients.

Chest Pain Assessment Unit

Opened in 2011, the Chest Pain Assessment Unit (CPAU) based on Clifford Ward provides a gold standard, streamlined assessment/screening and access to rapid diagnostic testing.

The CPAU is protocol driven, providing a treatment pathway for ALL patients presenting to KGH with chest pain symptoms referred by Accident and Emergency, ambulance, or the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU). All patients will be assessed by a cardiac specialist within 15 minutes of arrival. The CPAU is managed in a systematic way, making it easier to pin point problems, rule out all other conditions and prevent inappropriate patient discharge.

We create a caring and trusting environment, ensuring that patients and their relatives are fully informed at all stages of their care pathway. The CPAU is a consultant led service with cardiac nurse led support
