Yeovil District Hospital

Yeovil District Hospital in Yeovil town centre has good road and rail links and is close to facilities, but retains the feel of the rural setting. All services are provided on one easily accessible site.

The Trust provides a full range of services, with particular emphasis on enhancing patient recovery times through keyhole techniques and day surgery procedures.

Yeovil District Hospital has an excellent reputation and is consistently rated as being in the top ten of healthcare employers in the country. The Trust employs about 2,200 staff.

We provide acute care for a population of about 185,000 mostly in south Somerset, North and West Dorset and parts of Mendip. The hospital has 345 beds and a private patients’ wing. In 2011/12, there were 17,668 emergency admissions, 3,337 elective admissions, 16,765 day case admissions, 162,790 outpatients seen, 43,915 Emergency Department attendances; 1649 births, and 645 admissions to intensive care.

Yeovil District Hospital has a long-established and excellent reputation for the high quality of its research activity. Our achievements in research have raised the profile of YDH, attracting both national and international interest, and have demonstrated that a district general hospital can make a major contribution to the national research agenda. Yeovil District Hospital is the second best small acute trust in the country when it comes to its research activities and it has recently achieved the second highest uptake in the world in a stroke trial.
