Overview

Halton General Hospital

Halton General Hospital is located in Runcorn and is a surgical centre of excellence with a full range of outpatient and step down care facilities. The hospital specialises in routine, non-complex surgery and patients from across the Warrington, Halton and surrounding areas access surgical services at the hospital.

Halton provides a comfortable environment for expert surgical care and If your surgery is non-complex and does not require a long hospital stay it is likely to be carried out here. It is also home to our Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre - our new home for orthopaedic surgery from autumn 2012.

There are low operation cancellation rates as routine surgery is not as threatened by emergency work - which can take priority in larger hospitals. Because it specialises in surgical care there have been no cases of MRSA at the hospital over the last three years.

The Care Qualiy Commission praised the hospital's care for older patients following an unnanounced inspection in 2011. Standards of nutrition, dignity and respect were found to be excellent in all areas.

The hospital is also home to a minor injuries unit which provides a range of minor emergency care services for local people from 9am to 10pm every evening (please note that we cannot provide x-rays after 8pm though).

A step down ward at the hospital is in place for local patients who have had surgery or emergency medical care at Halton's sister hospital Warrington Hospital, but who require some further support before going home.

A large range of diagnostic and outpatient services are available at the hospital along with renal dialysis and chemotherapy units.

The hospital is easily accessible, located to the south of Runcorn just a short distance from the M56 motorway and local public transport networks.
