Overview

East Quay Medical Centre is an innovative and forward thinking partnership of 10 GPs. We constantly strive to provide up to date appropriate services for our patients. The practice started out in Monmouth Street, and moved to East Quay in 1982 when it won the ICI Pulse Practice Award for the conversion of the existing bus station. In 2004 we moved to our current premises further down East Quay and next to the Environment Agency.

We have been a GP training practice since 1979. We usually have one or two qualified doctors (registrars) who are training to become GPs; we also train hospital doctors and medical students. We also have a 'retained' doctor called Dr Sally Silby, who joined us three years ago and will be with us until 2015/6.

In 1992 we founded East Quay Health Limited,  providing vasectomies and other minor operations for patients of East Quay, other GP practices and private patients. More information on East Quay Health Ltd can be found here

In 1995 we were the first GP partnership in England to purchase a pharmacy and although we sold it to Rowlands Pharmacies in 2006, it continues to provide pharmacy services to the local community and works closely with the doctors to provide a cohesive service.

Our new building has enabled the practice to expand the medical staff and we now have a diverse multi-disciplinary team which includes Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Assistants,  Podiatrists, as well as the usual practice based District Nurses and Health Visitors. We also have an on-site dental practice.

In June 2009 we also launched East Quay Vision. This new optometrist practice offers NHS and private eye care, spectacles, contact lenses, dry eye clinics and participates in the acute eye care service. For more information visit www.eastquayvision.co.uk
