Named GP for All Patients

In accordance with the current government and our NHS contract all patients on our list have been allocated a named accountable GP who will be responsible for your overall care at Dr Uppal & Partner and your named GP is Dr A. Minhas.

Can patients choose their own named GP?

In the first instance, patients should simply be allocated a named GP. However, if a patient requests a particular GP, reasonable efforts should be made to accommodate their preference, recognising that there are occasions when the practice may not feel the patient's preference is suitable.

What does this mean for you?

You are unlikely to see any notable change in the way care is delivered to you by our practice, just a formalisation of our current process. The responsibilities of your named GP will be to:

Take the lead responsibility for ensuring that all appropriate services required by you from the GP practice are provided.

Where required, use their professional judgment, to work with relevant health and social care professionals to deliver a care package that meets your needs.

Ensure your physical and psychological needs are recognised and responded to by the relevant clinicians in the practice.

The role of the named GP will not:

Take on vicarious responsibility for the work of other doctors or health professionals.

Take on 24-hour responsibility for the patient, or have to change their working hours.

Imply personal availability for GPs throughout the working week.

Be the only GP or clinician who will provide care to that patient

Publication of GP Net Earning 2014/15

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working at Dr Uppal and Partners Parkview Centre for Health & Wellbeing and The Medical Centre, West End Road, Southall in 2014/15 was £48,741, before tax and National Insurance. This is for: one full time GP, one part time GP and three locum GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.”

Zero Tolerance

Our staff come to work to care for others, and it is important for all members of the public and our staff to be treated with respect.
In line with the rest of the NHS and to ensure this is fully observed we have instigated a Dignity at Work and Zero Tolerance policy, whereby aggressive or violent behaviour towards our staff will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Anyone giving verbal abuse towards members of staff will be sent a letter from the Practice Manager that this behaviour will not be tolerated. Any future violation of this policy may result in removal from the Practice patient list. There will be no appeal process.

There are occasions when patients need to be examined by a clinician which may involve intimate examinations. A chaperone provides a safeguard for patients during such an examination or consultation and protects against verbal, physical, sexual or other abuse for both patient and clinician. A clinician has the right to request a chaperone if they feel it necessary.

Dr Uppal & Partner is committed to putting patients at ease wherever possible. If you wish a chaperone to be present during an examination please do not hesitate to ask a clinician or one of our receptionists. It may not be possible for such a person to be provided immediately and you may have to return for the examination to be carried out at a mutually convenient time.

Trust is important in the relationship between clinician and patient and we would at all times, wish you to feel able to ask for a chaperone. It is the policy of Dr Uppal & Partner  to respect the privacy, dignity, cultural and religious beliefs of our patients.
