Latest news

SurgeryPod

We have a new facility in the waiting room that enables patients to check their own blood pressure and weight or complete questionnaires in relation to their health while waiting to see the doctor or nurse.  The equipment is a simple touch screen which the patient can use themselves.  This information can then be saved directly into the patient's medical record so it is available for the doctor or nurse.  If any readings are outside recommended limits, a message is sent to surgery staff so they are aware that you may need to make an appointment for further checks.

This equipment can help the surgery ensure your medical records are up to date and give the doctor or nurse more time during an appointment.

Carers

We now have a copy of the 'CARERS PACK', which is a folder containing all the information and contact details of all services and support available to carers in the area.

The folder is held in the office upstairs, so if you would like to see it please just ask the receptionist to request it is brought down for you to look at.

Apart from offering yearly health checks and flu jabs for carers, we also have an Advisor who attends the surgery once a month.  This advisor is available to give you any help, advice and support that you may need.  You can make an appointment for an informal chat with the advisor.  Please ask Reception to pass a message to the Practice Manager to arrange this for you if you have not already received the information pack in the post.

Permanent GP

Since Dr. Acharya left the surgery for pastures new in January we have continually advertised for a replacement, or even two part-time replacements to share the week.

We fully understand that to see different locum GP's every time you attend is unsettling.  Everything is being done to try to ensure that the same locums are here as often as possible to have some sort of continuity.

The response to the adverts has been disappointing.  However, having talked to other surgeries looking for GP's, this appears to be a nationwide problem at present.

We are also advertising for a new nurse to work in conjunction with our current nurse, Jackie.  This again is proving to be difficult.

Please be assured that we are doing all we can to find both a permanent GP and nurse  for the surgery.

Evening surgery

We now hold an evening surgery between 6.30 and 7.10 pm on Wednesdays.  These appointments must be pre-booked and are only for patients who work and have difficulty in getting to the surgery during normal opening hours.

New GP

Since January 2012 we have had a permanent GP, Dr. Obih, which means we can now give a much improved continuity of care.

To support Dr. Obih we have also employed a Nurse Practitioner, Mary Dates-Mitchell, who is qualified to see and prescribe for  various minor illnesses.  This will help to free-up appointments with the doctor giving more opportunity to be seen sooner for the patients.
