Welcome to St Georges Medical Practice

St Georges Surgery is  aiming to improve the services we provide and welcome feedback from patients and service users as to how we can develop the surgery

We are pleased to announce that following feedback from patients, we have extended our walk-in blood test session to a Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8.30am to 10am. Patients who have been asked to attend for a blood test may walk in between those times without an appointment and book in with reception. Obviously  demand varies but we will aim not to keep our patients waiting longer than we have to.

Please keep your feedback coming in- we want to see  our three stars improve even further but we have made great headway in making changes in order to benefit our patients. It has been a struggle on occasions as we now have separated from Worle medical practice and that has been a difficult transition for us all. However, we feel that as a permanent team in one place, we have the time, the skills and the resource to develop St Georges and the service we provide our patients.

Clinical cover

We are pleased to announce that following a very difficult period  for the practice when GPs have been hard to recruit  we have a consisent team of clinicians which include our pharmacist prescriber and our lead nurse Ruth Rice who both offer minor illness clinics as well as other skills.

We also have full clinical cover each day from our regular GPs and we are confident this will ensure that our patients can access services easily and book appointments at a time to suit their requirements.

Clinical Pharmacist

We are really fortunate to have employed Alison Grant our clinical pharmacist prescriber who carries out medication reviews, diabetes checks including insulin initiation and minor illness clinics. Alison's input will free the GPs to deal with more chronic ongoing conditions and if you are asked to see her instead of the GP it is because she is an expert in her field. Please do try her out as some patients may think we are not giving them a doctor because we have no availabllity. It is because Alison can easily sort out certain problems and she also has 15 minute appointments!

Bristol Eye Hospital service

Our joint working with Bristol Eye Hospital has been a great success- so much so that they are planning to extend the days they work at our surgery.

This is exactly what we are aiming to achieve- care closer to home and much more efficient use of our premises.

Memory cafe

Our receptionist Emma has launched herself into this project and we are extrememly proud of her. Our first memory cafe will be held at the surgery on saturday 11th June from 10.30 -12 noon. Patients and their carers are welcome as are non- patients who suffer with memory problems. It will give everyone a chance to meet others in similar situations and we hope this project will grow and improve the lives of our patients and their carers. Please ask Emma for more information if you are interested in this.

St Georges and Worle

We are very pleased to say that having separated from Worle medical practice during what has been a stressful few months, our new team is now settled and excited about the future of St Georges.

We have plans to develop services for our dementia patients and their carers-ask Emma about our dementia cafe- and we are expanding services with Bristol Eye Hospital. We are recruting new doctors and registering patients every day. it is an exciting time for us and we hope that our enthusiasm will spread as we ask our patients to become more involved in supporting us by joining our patient group which will be virtual as well as actual and giving us feedback on NHS Choices.

New Nursing team

We are fortunate that Ruth Rice our lead respiratory nurse has now moved to work at St Georges full time..

Ruth is currently training on coil fitting and will soon be able to do this to supplement her other skills. please ask to see her for sexual health, respiratory or minor illness issues. As a prescriber Ruth works closely with Alison Grant.

Lisa Rushton is our other nurse who is also diabetes trained, can do smears, dressings and other nurse related tasks. The team is supported by our Health Care Assistant Lesley Burne.
