Overview

Welcome to St Georges Medical Practice

St Georges Surgery is  aiming to improve the services we provide and welcome feedback from patients and service users as to how we can develop the surgery

We are pleased to announce that following feedback from patients, we have commenced a walk-in blood test session on a Wednesday morning from 8.30am to 10am. Patients who have been asked to attend for a blood test may walk in between those times without an appointment and book in with reception. Obviously  demand varies but we will aim not to keep our patients waiting longer than we have to.

Ruth Rice our respiratory nurse now spends two days a week at St Georges to cater for our asthmatic and COPD patients. She can now also fit and remove contraceptive implants.

Please keep your feedback coming in- we want to see  our three stars improve even further but we have made great headway in making changes in order to benefit our patients. It has been a struggle on occasions as integrating the reception and admin teams has meant disruption but we truly believe that you can only run two sites efficiently if you follow good practice and change bad practice. The staff have been really supportive in this.

It is surprising how many people when asked if they have had a free health check, say NO.

We are proud to announce that Malling Health has successfully bid for the opportunity to carry out NHS Health Checks on ANY patient between 40-74 wihtout pre-existing conditions (diabetes, CHD, hypertension).

If you would like a health check or know someone who may need one then please let us know. It is a free 30 minute appointment at a time and a place to suit you. So call us on 01934527681 and quote NHS Health Check- someone will call you back to arrange an appointment. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH US TO HAVE A HEALTH CHECK AND THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO REGISTER-WE JUST NEED TO SEE YOU ONCE!

New Clinical Team

We are delighted to announce that Dr Ashutosh Singh has been appointed locality lead GP for Malling Health who run both Worle and St Georges. he has a wealth of experience in A&E and out of hours and is a surgeon, so can carry out minor ops at the practice. he is very keen to integrate the teams to ensure continuity of care and cover in times of absence and illness, and you will see that our GPs now work across both practices. We currently have a great team of clinicians working with us:

Dr Tarek Abouarchid who is lead GP for Bristol OOH-Doctor Tarek

Dr Sharath Jaiprakash-Doctor Jai

Dr Joyshri Saranghi our lady GP works on a Saturday

Dr Amal El-Hawari who is a paediatric specialist and she will hopefully be working for us on a regular basis

Dr Rick Bowley-lead Gp at St Georges

ALL these doctors now cover both sites as it is important that our patients see a GP of their choice and for continutiy of care. If you cannot be seen at one site, we aim to see you at the other wherever possible.

Clinical Pharmacist

we are really fortunate to have employed Alison Grant our clinical pharmacist prescriber who carries out medication reviews, diabetes checks including insulin initiation and minor illness clinics. Alison's input will free the GPs to deal with more chronic ongoing conditions and if you are asked to see her instead of the GP it is because she is an expert in her field. Please do try her out as some patients may think we are not giving them a doctor because we have no availabllity. It is because Alison can easily sort out certain problems and she also has 20 minute appointments!

Bristol Eye Hospital service

We ar eextremely delighted to have successfully negotiated a contract with the eye hospital that means patients who usually spend a whole day travelling and waiting in Bristol can now come to the surgery where they are seen much more promptly by the same team who would have seen them at the hospital. We have tea and coffee facilities and a separate room for those wanting a bit more quiet.

This is exactly what we are aiming to achieve- care closer to home and much more efficient use of our premises.

New Nursing team

We are fortunate that Ruth Rice our lead respiratory nurse has buiilt up a great team of new nurses and HCAs that work across both Worle and St Georges.

Ruth is at the moment starting her prescribing course and we look forward to the summer when she will be able to sign her own prescriptions and carry out minor illness clinics.

She has appointed Lorraine LLoyd (previously a community nurse) who is experienced in dressings, diabetes, and all other nurse related tasks.Lisa Rushton is our other nurse who is also diabetes trained, can do smears, dressings and other nurse related tasks. They are supported by our Health Care Assistants Lesley Burne and Celia Roberts.

Once again all nurses and HCAs work across both sites to ensure adequate appointments. They also work some late nights to cater for workers and after school.
