Fitness Scheme Launched

Two health centres are launching a unique new get-fit scheme for Weston and Worle aimed at improving residents’ health.

St Georges Health Centre in Pastures Avenue, St Georges, and Worle Health Centre will refer patients on to Hutton Moor Leisure Centre for a six-week, 12-session health improvement course under the ‘Exercise Referral Scheme’.

Inductions start on 2nd April and the scheme will begin on Monday 16th April at the leisure centre with gym and health workouts tailored to each person and their needs.

Medical conditions accepted onto the scheme include hypertension, obesity, back pain, MS, Parkinsons Disease, diabetes, mental health, rheumatoid arthritis, stroke and osteoporosis.

Steve Edwards of St Georges Health Centre said: “This is a new scheme where we are trying to improve the health of local people.

“The aim of the sessions is to encourage people with a medical condition to become more physically active.

“The benefits of this are huge, both to the people involved and their families. They will have an increased sense of well-being, better health and in some cases there will be a reduction in the need for medication.”

Inductions start on the 2nd April. For more information contact St Georges’ Health Centre on 01934 527681
