Overview

Liverpool Women's Main Reception Area

Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist Trust that specialises in the health of women, babies and their families in a safe, friendly and caring environment. As one of only two such specialist Trusts in the UK - and the largest Women’s Hospital of its kind in Europe – we are dedicated to your care and well-being. Our main Hospital, a modern landmark building, is located on Crown Street in Toxteth and it is here that we deliver around 8,000 babies and perform some 10,000 Gynaecological procedures each year.

Our Maternity Team cares for women and their babies from conception to birth supported by our Neonatal Team who provide around the clock care for premature and new born babies needing specialist care. Our renowned Fertility Team helps families to improve the chance of conceiving babies.  In Gynaecology, we take care of women with the many varied conditions associated with the female reproductive system and are a renowned centre for Gynaecology Oncology and our Genetics team supports families with the diagnosis and counselling of genetic conditions.

With 20 babies and three premature babies born and cared for every day, it's not surprising that we are well known for Maternity and Neonatal services. Yet did you know that we carry out thirty Gynaecology operations and our Reproductive Medicine Unit completes 6 cycles of IVF treatment every day as well. And that's not all. We are also specialists in Clinical and Laboratory Genetics. Research too plays a key part in ensuring we continue to develop services that directly benefit patients. We also understand the personal importance of selecting the right health care option, which is why we offer choice and flexibility through the provision of both NHS and Private Care.

Liverpool Women's welcomes families with a fabulous new look

Seating Area

A new Front of House development costing £280,000 has transformed the reception area of Liverpool Women's which is the largest hospital  of its kind in the country, welcoming 100,000 women through its doors every year.

The new reception area incorporates comfortable seating, a play area for children, cafe and shop. It opens up onto a landscaped courtyard with seating which gives access to the magnificent new Centre for Women’s Health Research. A herb garden is being planted there for use by hospital chefs who cook all food on the premises. A memorial garden will be included in the next phase.

Kathryn Thomson, Chief Executive, said: "This project will create a more welcoming environment, better facilities and clearer directions for patients and their families.

"It is designed to improve our patients' journeys and encapsulate and strengthen our vision of putting people at the centre of everything we do in terms of services and facilities"

This is the first major refurbishment of the reception area since the hospital was opened in 1995 by Princess Diana - an event which is still marked by a bronze bust of the Princess which has been incorporated into the new area.
