Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a large and diverse population of more than 450,000 in east Berkshire and south Buckinghamshire.
The Trust became a Foundation Trust in 2007 and with approximately 3,200 staff, we provide acute services that include cardiology, maternity, stroke and emergency, with more than 100,000 A&E attendances every year. We also offer a range of outpatient, breast screening and diagnostic services.
Patient safety is paramount at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and we have one of the best survival rates in the NHS, a measure widely regarded as an indicator of clinical excellence overall. During 2009/10, our survival rates were better than would be expected (as indicated in Dr Foster hospital standardized mortality ratio), given the nature and complexity of the cases we treat.
We are also proud to offer the da Vinci surgical system for our prostate cancer patients, which involves innovative minimally invasive surgery. Other benefits include excellent cancer control, improved results over traditional treatments, less pain and scarring and reduced trauma to the body. The system is being used for NHS patients on a case by case basis, and for private patients through our private patient unit.

In 2011, we were awarded a CHKS Top 40 Hospitals award for the sixth year running, covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.
